533610 2007-03-16 20:25:00 It looks like it supports SATA II which means you can have another 4 HDDs (SATA drives)

I and a lot of others on here prefer Seagate over anything

The master is sata an the slave is ide:illogical so i can get two more stata drives do i have to buy a cable to hook them up.I am such a noob:D
an can i run ide drives instead of SATA cause i see they are cheaper

533612 2007-03-16 21:27:00 It looks like there's 2 SATA connections ( . asus . com/products4 . aspx?modelmenu=2&model=768&l1=3&l2=15&l3=231" target="_blank">www . asus . com) that can run in RAID 0+1 .

BUT you can only have 2 SATA's not 4 like IDE .

SATA's only use masters not slaves .

And 4 IDE hdd's (If u dont use a cd / dvd / burner that is) .

Or 2 IDE hdd's if u do have cd/dvd's/burners .

You can use IDE or SATA as the main hdd . It doesnt matter .

533614 2007-03-17 02:27:00 Is this your mobo? www.asus.com or the a8n-vm straight like in Speedys post? I was looking at the a8n-vm-csm... The_End_Of_Reality (334)
533615 2007-03-17 02:46:00 no reason why you cant add more drives if you want thru a pci add on ide/sata card...... drcspy (146)

thats the one

533617 2007-03-17 20:07:00 thats the one Ah, so you have the A8N-VM-CSM? that means you can have a total of 4 SATA/SATA II HDDs

So, your boot HDD is a SATA right? is that the only SATA? if so, you can have another 3 SATA HDDS with the A8N-VM-CSM.

You can run IDE if you want, but SATA is better for speed (and the future), and they are not that much dearer, only a few dollars...

But with IDE it is not recommended to run a HDD on the same IDE channel as a CD/DVD burner, which means you can really only have 2 IDE HDDs

And drcspy is right, if you get THAT desperate :p you can get one of these cards (provided you have a spare PCI slot)

533618 2007-03-17 22:37:00 IDE isn't a lot cheaper than sata now.
But whichever you get make sure its Seagate. A nice reliable drive with 5 year warranty.
