not necessarily, i suggest the user does a google search and notes any specific app's that may be an issue, as mentioned, XP would probably be the go.

Well u didnt tell me why did u?

There will be a few programs, that wont work like IE 7 and WMP 11.

And some of the newer programs that will only work with XP obviously.

533270 2007-03-20 14:25:00 If your computer cant handle XP, what makes you think it will be any good at google earth? It IS a 3D app.

Reason that I'm not keen on XP is that it's a P3 500MHz with 160Meg of RAM
& a 15Gig HD ... & it is not worth another update (of the specs) Done once 5 years ago. Machine now 7.5 years old. From what I've read, on XP it'll either crawl or, won't go at all. whereas 2K will go OK (hopefully!) I'm a pensioner, so money's tight
Thank you everyone, but, I think I'll persevere with 98SE.
The 2K thingy was a bit of a 'pipe dream' anyway
Regarding 3D app's this thing's got an Asus 6600 card in it, supposed to be 3D compliant. Never tried any though. Guess I won't get to try it now.
