533498 2007-03-16 21:56:00 Zone Alarm a memory hog? I have ZA Security Suite here on my desktop and Task Manager > Processes show it using only 15 Kb.My ZA uses 2.5 megs. Not a huge amount but a heck of a lot more than your 15KB's. Greg (193)
533499 2007-03-16 22:33:00 No Windows firewall will stop nothing exiting the pc. ZA is one of the best firewalls available. Have a look at the grc site. mikebartnz (21)

533502 2007-03-16 23:23:00 In terms of what a firewall is expected to do for your PC with regard to safety and security from the intruders it has to be said that Windows Firewall is about as effective as a screen door in a submarine.

I use PC-Cillin Internet Security 2007 and have used the PC-Cillin product range since 2002 without any hassle at all. I hate Norton, it doesn't do it for me and in terms of value for money... you could do better.

Can't say much about the other free offerings but most are better than Windows Firewall on any given day.

Cheers

I wasn't fully awake :waughh: when I posted that. Make it 15 Mb for ZA Security Suite, along with Firefox at 78 Mb, Spybot's Teatimer 12 Mb, Avast 10 + 12 Mb, Proxomitron 5 Mb.

But,

I say Window's Firewall is all you need.

Microsoft: OneCare should not have been rolled out
Microsoft has said that its OneCare security suite has "a problem" with the underlying antivirus code, and admitted that security is just "a little part of Microsoft".

Speaking to ZDNet UK exclusively at the CeBIT show in Hanover, a senior manager for the software giant said that its consumer security product is far from perfect and that pieces are actually "missing".

OneCare has been dogged by controversy since its launch last May. Signs that the software was not up to scratch came earlier this month when OneCare failed to achieve certification in an independent test of security products. Shortly before that, it emerged that the product did not sufficiently protect users of Microsoft's Vista operating system against malware.
