533755 2007-03-17 02:30:00 I've been having problems with this too. But not the sending part, but with the receiving part. I'm thinking maybe hotmail have changed something? pine-o-cleen (2955)
533756 2007-03-17 02:53:00 You could just use your ISP's SMTP settings. maccrazy (6741)

533758 2007-03-17 04:52:00 You can use your ISP's SMTP server and put your sender's address as your Hotmail address, it just means that your sent e-mails won't show when you log on to Hotmail via the web access. They just stay in Thunderbird's sent folder on your PC.
[unless Hotmail allows IMAP access]

I use Fastmail which allows IMAP access and in that case, outgoing e-mails via Xtra's SMTP server are copied to the "sent" folder on Fastmail's server.

And yes, I think Thunderbird is great too.

the webmail extenetions ellimates the need for it. I just dont get it. If a can recieve messages theres obviously a connection there so why wont it go both ways?

127.0.0.1 is the local loop of your pc, not a SMTP server. AFAIK, you have to pay for a service in order to SEND mail via the hotmail server via your e-mail client. As stated before, use your ISP smtp server to send your mail!
