534307 2007-03-19 07:58:00 Have just upgraded to Vista and my aging version of Partition Magic isn't compatible, its not a piece of software i use often but it does come in handy from time to time.

What alternatives are there to Partition Magic that people are using? Only feature i really need is the ability to resize partitions without destroying them.

534310 2007-03-19 08:52:00 I see. Well, my own personal experiences extends to fdisk and OSX's disk utility and terminal. OSX + boot camp can resize partitions safely. Ripdog (11014)
534311 2007-03-19 09:19:00 Just a query -- why is it incompatible? I always use a partitioner outside the OS, from a bootable CD (or floppy if it comes to that). As long as the partitioning software understands the type (NTFS, FAT32, ext2 etc) wouldn't it be fine no matter what the actual OS was?

I still use an old copy of Partition Magic on a bootable CD ... just boot off it, resize/reorganise/whatever, then reboot back into the OS.

(Or am I missing something here?)

Furthermore, Symantec has a long & sordid history of acquiring products or complete companies and then discontinuing the products. I would not be surprised if Ghost were treated similarly in the not-distant future. Partition Magic, which they also acquired from PowerQuest a couple of years back in release 8 has yet to be updated by Symantec. The fact that Symantec tech support/development has been unable to isolate the regular random corruption problems I have been experiencing across two releases of the product does not bode well for the future of the Ghost product, in my mind.
Misty :p

PS - the highlighting of Partition Magic is mine
