534692 2007-03-21 10:45:00 I gave it a quick go and it worked ok, smoothly, good picture but first I had to disable hosts file which has a zillion ad.doubleclick sites in it :)

I thought the idea of the hosts file was that it avoided the necessity of having to download the (for instance) ad.doubleclick stuff?

Most of the 1 hour (well about 40 mins without the adds) TV episodes available on bitorrent are only 350MB and they still look great!

Television New Zealand hopes its new internet programme site will be profitable within three years but acknowledges that success depends on improved broadband services.
Success was dependent on both broadband uptake and users' broadband experience improving, he said. Just 11.7 per cent of New Zealand households have broadband, ranking the country 22nd out of 30 Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development countries. Telecom is regularly criticised for the quality and speed of broadband services.

That is because they are AVIs compressed with Divx or Xvid, these files on the TVNZ site are WMV, and I must say, the audio is not all that great... and neither is the video... compared to an episode of Prison Break :xmouth: and there is added crap included in the files for their stupid points system...

If you go for the HD.264 versions they are less around 180 - 240MB

Yes basically, normally doubleclick is prevented from being accessed and downloading ads etc by prefixing the url with 127.0.0.1, but to get TVNZ video to work, I had to allow access to ad.doubleclick.

What a pain. I think there was/is a similar problem on Xtra's site when trying to access their broadband options page.

What exactly is going on?

It's all about Globalisation, the New World Order, loss of privacy, and the take over of the world by big business :)

Maybe they need to learn how to compress them down. They could learn a lot from shows that are on bittorrent.
