534735 2007-03-21 01:25:00 Hi,

I have recently purchased an IBM motherboard, and identified it as a Netvista A40 Type 6830/6831

Mobo manual is here:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/netvista_pdf/22p2896.pdf

However, the problem is that instead of having labelled connectors for the front panel connections (Power switch/led, hdd led etc), it has one block, that is obviously designed for a standard IBM connection of sorts. I am just wondering if anyone knows the layout of these pins, so I can connect the appropriate pins to the connectors. It's a block of 20 pins, 2 rows of 10.

Thanks in advance!

Roddy

534736 2007-03-21 02:05:00 Well the manual is pretty much hopeless.

It doesnt have anything in it, to tell u what goes where. It doesnt even mention the front panel connector.

10 are most probably for the power/power/hdd LED, reset, and the other 10 for the mic/audio in if the front of this case has input for either.

534738 2007-03-21 02:29:00 The motherboard could be an Intel 815 ATX board . Does it have any markings on it that help identify the model number? The Intel site has a good seach facility for finding mobo manuals KatiMike (242)
534739 2007-03-21 02:30:00 Ok so I got that completely wrong. On page 35 of the manual, it has a board layout. The connectors are marked as #5, called "Power LED connectors". There's 8 pins in the block. I found out that 7 and 8 are the power switch pins, so have connected that switch up, and that's working fine.

My problem now is that I can't get into the bios to set the boot order - Windows keeps trying to boot from HDD, which isn't working due to a recent hardware change (namely the new motherboard). On boot it gives my gfx card info, then goes to a blue IBM logo, then changes to the windows error.

Can anyone lend some advice as to where to go from here?

534742 2007-03-21 02:47:00 OK this looks (www.trademe.co.nz) like your mobo. Its got the same FRU u posted. Its socket 370. Speedy Gonzales (78)

534744 2007-03-21 03:04:00 I took a pxt.

It's kinda outta focus, it's showing the top right hand corner of the mobo if you're looking with the I/O ports on the left (same orientation as the manual diagram). I have connected the power switch as you can (kinda) see.
