534519 2007-03-20 08:22:00 Hi All.
In MS Word I select a new document. I set the Language as 'English NZ' with 'English UK' as second option. In the computer settings, English NZ is set as preferred option. Why, then, when I go into the spell checker does it say English US, even tho I keep changing it to English NZ ??? Thanks. PJ

534520 2007-03-20 08:42:00 Pretty sure Billy had some fun and games with this one once. I do know it has been mentioned here before so a bit of searching might be in order. :) FoxyMX (5)
534521 2007-03-20 08:46:00 OK. Any idea of the thread title? PJ Poppa John (284)
534522 2007-03-20 08:48:00 It's something to do with dictionaries.

The custom.dic is I believe English US. To use an English NZ dictonary, you have to actually change the setting to English NZ.dic but I'm afraid I am not sure how this is done. No doubt someone will have an answer.

He mentions it here (www.pressf1.co.nz) but didn't indicate whether he actually solved the problem or not, tsk tsk.

534524 2007-03-20 08:59:00 Look in MS Word at Tools/Options/Spelling & Grammar/Custom.dic but I'm not sure thatit will help. Bryan (147)
534525 2007-03-21 04:42:00 OKAll . . . Just about got it all Sussed . There were places I was not aware of that had to be "Ticked" .

One thing that still bothers me tho, that Bryan mentioned . The default dictionary is, indeed, American . So should I replace it with a UK English version? Collins or Oxford? If so, How so??

I am writing in UK English (actually in Yorkshire English . The best County in the UK) . PJ

534526 2007-03-21 04:54:00 Hi PJ. Have you been to Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options. Double click on it and select the Languages Option and then Details. Despite being a Lancashire Lad I have mine showing English (New Zealand) - US. The last bit indicates the type of keyboard. In Word, if you keep an eye on the bottom Task Bar, the eleventh or twelfth item from the left indicates a language. Occasionally when downloading from the States this may change. Just double click on it and select your default choice again. Scouse (83)
