534131 2007-03-18 21:46:00 I turned my PC on last night and it gave me 3 beeps instead of the reassuring 1. It then displayed a message saying it was deleting the main BIOS. I have a dual BIOS setup on my PC so I restarted and copied the backup BIOS to the Main BIOS and eveything seems to be fine. This is the second time in a month that this has happened and I'm assuming that this is not a good sign. is there anything I can do to prevent this or should I chuck out the old dunga and buy a new PC?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA -7ZXR and is about 5 years old

thanks in advance

534132 2007-03-18 21:55:00 Might be the battery dying. Replace the CMOS battery.

You'll have to reconfigure the BIOS after, or copy it from the 2nd BIOS.

534133 2007-03-22 09:26:00 Thanks for the advice. I changed the battery. The fault was intermittent so I'll just have to wait to see if it reoccurs. A bit of excitement when I forgot to reset the BIOS setting when I rebooted but thankfully I had taken a digital photo of the CMOS and BIOS settings to it was quickly fixed. The new battery seems to have given my nearly new graphics card a new lease of life as well. On Tuesday, instead of showing the login screen the monitor would go into standby mode but now all is well. Sam's Dad (11848)

534135 2007-03-22 10:40:00 Yes, it sounded like CMOS battery running low. I used to have a 6 year old motherboard which gave pretty much the same problem. Techie guy said CMOS battery was nearly out, and we went on the upgrade path then. qazwsxokmijn (102)
