535666 2007-03-25 02:17:00 Just installed and created a Ghost image of my C: It is stored in partition D:. Performed integrity check, created a boot disk, and even performed a actual restore of my C:. Everything works fine.

Just one little issue, when I checked the image file created - in D: found that instead of just one ghost image file, I found that there are 8 spanned files created as well! Why is it so? My partition D: surely is large enougn to cater for the image file - there is no need to break up the file into so many 'spanned' files.

Question: Is there a way to configure Ghost 2003 NOT to span the image file?

Cheers

535667 2007-03-25 02:24:00 How big are each of the images? And whats D formatted in? FAT32 or NTFS? Speedy Gonzales (78)

Both of C: & D: are NTFS and the spanned files are about 2,097,000 KB each in size.

535669 2007-03-25 02:44:00 According to this site (ghost.radified.com)

It spans with files bigger than 2 GB. Its by design and based on DOS not Ghost.

So, it sounds like u cant do anything about it.

535671 2007-03-25 22:24:00 I think there is an option in settings to change the size of image files.

I usually just make a folder for each backup, so things dont get confusing and messy.

Read the user manual and it says that we can backup to a single image file or span it across several files, but it doesn't say how to do it! Went to options in Ghost 2003 but could not find any settings as to change the image file size or whether to use a single file or to span it.

The Manual did mention about this if we were to use the boot disk to perform the back up. There is option to change this settings in DOS mode.

But, how am I going to do it in Windows??

535673 2007-03-26 22:23:00 Any suggestions? bk T (215)
535674 2007-03-29 02:55:00 I only have experience using the bootable CD version of Ghost.

In using that, I can change settings for image size in the menu.

I like doing backups out of Windows anyway.

535675 2007-03-29 03:06:00 I am pretty sure there is a 2gb limit on the images as already stated due to the DOS design.
As a side note Bk T, move your 'My Doc's" folder to the D: drive also.
