535648 2007-03-24 23:45:00 If its onboard video then no dont try and fix it.

Buy an AGP or PCI videocard instead.

535649 2007-03-24 23:52:00 it must be beyond me cos i dont even know if it is onboard video

how would i suss that...

535650 2007-03-25 00:01:00 If the videocard connection is near the top of the case at the back of the case, it maybe onboard.

Or if u open the case, you'll see that its part of the motherboard. Which means its onboard.

Or if its in a PC / AGP slot (down the bottom), then its an AGP / PCI card (or other)

Are you sure that the monitor plug is faulty? As this would be very rare?
It could be one of a number of things?

535652 2007-03-25 00:15:00 ok looked up sites... it is onboard ... it is pci

535653 2007-03-25 00:16:00 radium.... i am not sure of anything... just that another monitor wouldnt work in the plug either so i presumed it was the plug hammer (1735)
535654 2007-03-25 00:16:00 buy the video card from somewhere that will let you return it for any reason in case it is the motherboard that has died, rather than the video card. Greven (91)

It can't be both. Is the Plug Side ways on the Back of the comp?
If it is then it's onboard. Which is the most likely option, especially as PCI video cards are quite rare these days.

It is very unlikely that it would be the plug. Are there any visable signs of damage to the plug? or does the connection not seem right?

Can you hear your computer post when you boot it?

Or like Greven said try a Video card, can you borrow one from a mate?

The plug? The plug is just a plug, its more likely to be the graphics chip itself.
And are you sure its just a graphics problem? How did you diagnose this? Does the PC boot, can you hear the hard drive startup and load Windows? Or is the entire PC just sitting there doing nothing?
