I am an Electronic Tech but for years as part of my business I get called on to repair, disinfect and tidy up PC's . Recently an old client called to say her PC was running very slowly . I called around and found exactly as she described . It would load windows, but didn't seem to respond to mouse clicks However during testing, I suddnly realised that it was responding, but about 30 secs after the key press so I decided to go into safe mode to see what it was like . Sadly it just hung and refused to go into that mode so I brought the box back to the workshop . Now I should explain that for convenience I use an electronic KVM switch which I find is very convenient so I connected it and powered up . (For those who may not know, a KVM switch is a device to enable you to connect the Monitor, keyboard and mouse to 2 or as many as 16 PC's depending on the model selected . ) To my huge surprise I found it was 100% and it did everything I could ask . Much head scratching and I returned to the clients house and collected her keyboard and mouse . Testing finally proved the fault was the PS2 Mouse and a new one cured the problem . Today I was chatting with friend who is a computer Tutor in Israel and he told me about one of his collegues that had a similar problem . He had random Slowdowns / freezes / reboots and spent 3 days tearing his hair until finally found it was his USB mouse . What the mechanism of these problems is I don't know, but just maybe this may help someone one day . |
