535482 2007-03-24 06:36:00 Ever since I started to use Vista on a clean install, I get the following when I try to download something on Rapidshare:

"Your IP-address ***.**.* is already downloading a file. You have to wait until it is finished." ( I put the * instead of my reported address).

It also sometime says that I am already downloading a file, when I am not & have not, for weeks (with XP & OK with it)

Any clues?

535483 2007-03-24 07:03:00 I don't see how it is a Vista problem. but do you have access to an XP machine? if so try and DL something on that, also reset your router (assuming you are on BB)

BTW an IP address is nothing really important... Heres mine for ya: 125.238.229.62 :p

535484 2007-03-24 07:55:00 I had a similar problem about six months ago, when I was using XP.
Then, it would tell me that I had entered the wrong code, even though I hadn't.

It went like that for months & all of a sudden, it was fine again, all D/Ling as it should.

Then I loaded on Vista & now have this problem.

I used Acronis True Image to image my XP installation & will try loading that on one of my other drives & see what happens when I use it on Rapidshare.

Be a few days before I am able to to that.

Thanks for your reply.

Hmmm. You have all your 3rd party antivirus and antispyware installed of course?
Quite possibly your PC maybe downloading all sorts of exciting things without you be consulted.

535487 2007-03-24 11:40:00 Sounds like your problem taken from Rapidshares FAQ.

Your system complaints about that I am already downloading files or that I have already downloaded too much. But I did not download anything! Whats wrong there?

Our system checks your IP-address in order to count the downloads. If you are getting this message and you really did not download anything, then you are using a proxy-server, which is used by other people as well. Even if you have no proxy-server set up in your configuration, there are many providers who force a transparent proxy-servers between you and the net. If you do not believe us, go to other pages telling you your IP-address (for example http://www.myipaddress.com.) But what can you do? You have to disable this proxy-server. If you are not able to disable the proxy-server, the only solution IS a Premium-account. Premium-users are recognized by cookies, not by IP-address. Unfortunately we cannot disable our IP-check, else people would download so much that we would have to close down this service completely. I hope you understand our situation in this matter.

535488 2007-03-24 23:11:00 It's also quite possible that some ning nong way over in Abu Dabi is using a prgram like HideIP Platinum and by coincidence is using your IP address. Hide IP is a proxy server program which allows the user to change their IP address (transparently) to avoid the time and file download limits on Rapidshare, etc.

535489 2007-03-25 15:32:00 I was running Avast, McAfee Firewall, Spybot S & D & Microsoft's Defender.
All reported clean.

I tried Rapidshare again, same problem. Then I restored XP from an image file.
Twenty minutes later, tried Rapidshare again & downloaded with no problem.

I was going to load on Vista fresh as a dual boot but now my Graphics Card has packed up, (am on an old one now), so I need to get that sorted under warranty. Then I will have another go with Vista.

Thanks for you help thus far.

535490 2007-03-29 22:21:00 You may be correct.

Over the last few days, I have been trying to download a program but I kept getting messages saying that I either were downloading a file or, I needed to wait X minutes.

I would wait until the X minutes were up & try for the program.
I them would be told that I am already downloading.

One of the times that the X time had expired, I was fast enough to get my program to download.

I tried for another program this morning, just to be told that I have to wait X minutes.

If what you say is true, then someone is having a great time using my IP address.
I thought IP addresses were generated at random?
If so, how can it be that I am getting these messages so often?

Is there something I can do about it?

535491 2007-03-29 22:58:00 I've been getting the same problem recently. What ISP are you with? I'm with Slingshot (Broadband) and I am pretty sure it is Rapidshares IP address checker that causes it. If you find a fix I would love to know.

Interestingly I also had your problem a few months ago with the code errors and that just fixed itself as well. I assumed Rapidshare made some change to their site and then some subsequent update. I never changed anything I did.
