2007-03-29 23:38:00 | I am with Slingshot also. Yes, it was real strange about the code error resolving itself, it must have been a problem at their end. They did not reply to an email I sent them, not that I had to much hope that they would. I have rung Slingshot in the past asking if they use a proxy & they asure me they don't. God knows what to do about this current problem. If I find a fix, i will post it, but I am doubtful that I will come accross a fix.

2007-03-30 07:17:00 | The problem has nothing to do with what OS you run. I get the same thing (and I use Linux) Its either Slingshot (my ISP as well) or Rapidshare

2007-03-30 09:10:00 | Hmm, looks like it is an ISP issues... anyone else not from Slingshot have these problems? I have never on *shudder* Telecom *shudder* | The_End_Of_Reality (334) | |
2007-04-01 12:35:00 | This may be of interest. I followed a link to a forum & the index loaded OK (using XP). I clicked on the "register" link & this is the message the page said: "vBulletin Message You have been denied access to this forum. The reason is that you are visiting us from a place that has been blacklisted as an Open Proxy. You have to fix this, and return. It gave my IP address as202.180.83.7 If you want to know exactly where you are blacklisted, go see www.tornevall.net/cgi-bin/ip.cgi. " I followed the tornevall.net link & subsequent links but it rapidly got to technical for me. Can someone more tech savvy follow the links & report back, in laymen's language, as to what it all means? I am starting to wonder about Slingshot ...... Perhaps those of us that are with Slingshot & are having the problems discussed in this threat, contact Slingshot tomorrow & ask why.

2007-04-02 03:43:00 | Hey I'm having the exact same issue with rapidshare as you guys because I am on slingshot too, making it impossible to download anything. Slingshot DO run a transparent proxy making it virtually impossible to access some sites, especially rapidshare which is really really annoying :( After about a week of searching for solutions I have found 2 but they are shockingly slow (proxy tunneling software), called Your Freedom and Http Tunnel. Both go slower than dial-up when enabled :( I've been complaining on the slingshot forums about this quite a bit but can't get any answers (forums.slingshot.co.nz), tech support is a joke (one guy didn't even know what a proxy server was), and email tech support just sends you a copy of rapidshares FAQ and says tough luck, live with it. I consider this to be internet censorship personally and it's really starting to piss me off (can't change isps because flatmates don't want to pay more for less data :/). I just want to be able to use the internet DAMMIT! :P

2007-04-02 03:54:00 | It is what I have been suspecting. I don't think Slingshot is being very honest about this. I have been with them for one year now, so am able to look around & change ISP's. Mind you, I'm on the 256K DL speed with 25GB cap. I like that cap but over the next 6 months to a year, I think there will be big changes with plans offered from all the ISP's. If one meets my requirements, then one question I will be asking, is about this "proxy"thing. Don't want to have that again!

2007-04-02 06:09:00 | I just rang them up a week or so ago and asked if they were running a transparent proxy and they said yip. I'm on the Max/128 25gb plan but the speeds are shocking (sub 30kbs onpeak) and pings of 400 average. I really want to change to Orcon, but for the same plan it's about another $20 a month (Max/128 30gb cap) but you have the option of taking interleaving off reducing pings by heaps :) Telecommunications companies are probably one of the least trusted types of businesses in the world :P

2007-04-02 10:20:00 | I was running Avast, McAfee Firewall, Spybot S & D & Microsoft's Defender. All reported clean. I tried Rapidshare again, same problem. Then I restored XP from an image file. Twenty minutes later, tried Rapidshare again & downloaded with no problem. I was going to load on Vista fresh as a dual boot but now my Graphics Card has packed up, (am on an old one now), so I need to get that sorted under warranty. Then I will have another go with Vista. Thanks for you help thus far. Holy crap, thats a bit drastic isnt it.....LOL: Why is it that people forget to check the damn web sites 1st.... You could of saved yourself 20 minutes + the time restoring back to Vista. GOLDEN RULE - CHECK THE MANUFACTURERS WEB-SITE 1ST...:waughh:

2007-04-02 20:33:00 | Well, Ive managed 2 downloads from rapidshare last night using proxy software (Tor). Slow (20Kbps down) but I'll take slow over nothing :D | Myth (110) | |
2007-04-02 23:55:00 | I got a download working at 5kbs :P It's just so annoying because on xtra I would get 100-200kbs offpeak which was sweet as, really have to encourage my flatmates to change to orcon... Anyone know if they use dynamic or static IP's? I would prefer dynamic.
