535459 2007-03-29 22:54:00 Whilst I can understand why dialup users would want to disable the Webshield I leave mine enabled, being on ADSL, as it provides protection against infected webpages. FoxyMX (5)
535460 2007-03-29 23:22:00 I use Avast Pro on XP, in it's default install, and It will load the pages in a couple of seconds.
The same install on Vista, slows those pages down to 5.5 minutes.

535461 2007-03-29 23:28:00 If u had Avast Pro the web shield option will slow surfing down.

As I think it scans everything on every site you go to. Thats why I disabled it.

Had the same issues with McAfee suite on new Dell box with Vista Home Prem too, un-installed it and away we go, just put AVG on and let the windows 2 way firewall and windows defender take care of the rest.

535462 2007-03-29 23:35:00 I wouldn't rely on Vista's firewall.

Or Windows defender for that matter.

535464 2007-03-30 03:34:00 Also bear in mind that IE7 uses a phising filter which scans each page before you can view it. This could also be hampering the speed of the sites. jamesmcphersonvrx22rochel (11915)

You can turn this off tho.

535466 2007-03-30 05:39:00 You sure can, just thought i would check this.

Another note too, some hardware firewalls will not work with IE7 a prime example of this are the SonicWall series, they will not work under IE7.
