534845 2007-03-21 07:00:00 Am on the cusp of buying a Belkin G Wireless Starter kit to connect PC and laptop and ADSL. ($140). It has

Wireless Network Starter kit for Notebook and Desktops. Includes 54G Router and USB Adapter

..however, looking at the Belkin site, it appears this option, just around the corner (temporarily out of stock) would seem to be worth waiting for ??

catalog.belkin.com

What do you think please ?

534846 2007-03-21 07:10:00 Pre-N is actually faster than Wireless G. But its also more expensive.

By the time u order something like that from the US, it'd most probably cost the same as these (search.dse.co.nz)

From DSE.

......but wait, Speedy !
The price quoted on the Belkin website is US$99.99, which is at today's exchange rate NZ$141.73. This, on the surface, seems not too bad in comparison ! Or am I missing something ?

534849 2007-03-21 08:23:00 Hmm u have a point there. It wld be what u said converted to USD.

Altho, if you're buying a G wireless starter kit (which I take it is 11.g not N), you might as well buy a 11.g router, not a Pre-N one.

Well even tho Pre-N would support 11.g most probably. But, it would only go at 11.g speed not Pre-N speed.

You could get one of these (search.dse.co.nz 603&site=&w=wireless+g+router&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&submit=Go)

But when NZ technology caught up then would that not put me in a more advantageous position ?? :illogical

Well you could buy the Pre-N but then WHEN and IF prices come down in NZ, (for Pre-N, if u buy it in NZ that is), you would still have to buy Pre-N cards or adapters, if u wanted to run at Pre-N speeds.

534852 2007-03-27 03:29:00 In the end bought a Belkin starter kit but had to swap because it proved incompatible with my Asus modem. Could share bandwidth but the wireless aspect was not consistent.

Now have a D-Link ADSL Modem Router DSL-G604T which replaces both and is working very well so far !
