1413013 2015-12-16 01:45:00 I hate this OS with a passion. Have a customers PC here (HP AIO) that they did the in-place upgrade (cough) to Window 10.... and it won't boot.

First thing that pops up: :( Your PC ran into a problem, and needs to restart. We'll restart for you. If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: SYSTEM_LICENSE_VIOLATION
Google brings up little info, apart from some MDT in-place upgrades failing and doing this too.

Restarts, attempts automatic repair: Your PC did not start correctly (you don't say).
Can either Restart (same loop), or advanced options. Tried a Reset from Troubleshooting, but that packs a sad and says it can't do it.

So before I waste a day fluffing around, any quick fix (har har), other than booting to a live CD and pulling off data, then doing a fresh 10 install (and me hoping like hell 10 did activate on this hardware)?

1413014 2015-12-16 02:02:00 Is the PC an older model? If so has NX been enabled in BIOS? Bryan (147)
1413015 2015-12-16 02:31:00 There should have been an error code as well . 0x??????

That code will tell you what was the probable cause . You can read through bug-check-0x9a-system-license-violation/ ( . solvusoft . com/en/errors/blue-screen-errors/microsoft-corporation/windows-operating-system/bug-check-0x9a-system-license-violation/" target="_blank">www . solvusoft . com) .

BUT in all honesty, saving all your data and wiping the drive will be the safest option . HP's have several partitions, 6-7 of the damn things, often they will cause problems .

If the PC has the product code in the motherboard there wont be a problem, just install it from fresh, skip entering the key and when it connects to the internet it will auto activate, OR if there's a key on the PC someplace just enter that .

The latest Build . microsoft . com/en-us/software-download/techbench" target="_blank">www . microsoft . com Will accept all keys from W7 to W10 .

Your problems are quite common with Name brand Computers, just done two today ( both HP laptops) that have stuffed up, so fresh installs :)
Don't muck about with it, as it wont be right if its failed already . If it cant roll back to a previous Install, even when booting from the DVD its well and truly knackered .

1413016 2015-12-16 04:16:00 It's a newish model from earlier this year, 8.1 on it originally.

No error code :waughh:

I'll do the data retrieval and fresh install! Will save a lot of hassles I think

One of those weeks, faulty HD on a laptop which appears to be unreadable for recovery/imaging and another laptop with a 8.1 fail.... another HP :annoyed: So that looks like another reload :badpc:

1413017 2015-12-16 13:40:00 The biggest problem for me with W10 was my inability to learn a different way to do things. I solved that problem on my lappie by replacing the hard drive with one that had W7 on it. Every so often when I have free time I install the W10 hard drive and let it up date then have a play around with it and gradually learn its foibles.
Just about have it sussed now but still prefer W7

1413018 2015-12-16 17:28:00 As someone who never installed Win 8 but was forced to use it at work and hated it, I find Win 10 rather nice to use. However the claim it boots faster is disproved on my system. gary67 (56)
1413019 2015-12-16 19:50:00 A fresh install it was. Now just need to drop the data back and install a couple of programs and it's done. 2 down, 1 to go. Another HP windows fail, 8.1 this time. Renegade (16270)

1413021 2015-12-16 22:17:00 The final Windows 10 upgrade you can find here.

Try to instal it... But as for me, Windows 10 is NOT WORTH TO instal to your laptop in any way. I used it in my friend computer and was not impressed at all!

Just replaced our Earthquake damaged Acer with a HP laptop, advice from our hardware dealer, hold off on W10 for some time yet.

MS are still correcting faults, even in Edge is the explanation.

and the boot & win partitions can be in a non standard order (ie Win wont be 2nd partition), you wont notice untill it fails to load load for some reason .
