1405981 2015-08-05 22:37:00 From a corporate friend . . . . . . . . . . . .

To all staff .

A number of sources report attackers use fake Windows 10 upgrade email to deliver malware named CTB-Locker . Email is appeared to be sending by Microsoft (update@microsoft . com email address) with the subject of “Windows 10 Free Update” . It is noted that attackers use same colour theme of Windows 10 and fake message with “This message has been scanned for viruses…” to trick people to download the attachment .

Once

this malware is executed, it will encrypt all files in the hard drive and demand for a ransom to provide the decryption key .

Due to a number of security concerns, ! will not be upgrading to Windows 10 until all security issues have been resolved . Our customer are expecting to be pristine with security as it can impact them .

Preventive measures

Make sure Webroot is active with latest Webroot version (right click on the Webroot icon in system tray and click on "Refresh Configuration"

Do not shutdown Webroot and Kaseya from the workstation .

Be cautious when opening email attachments . Do not open or run any attachment if it is in an unsolicited email .

Do not follow unsolicited web links in emails .

Be cautious when a program makes any changes to Operating System or system registry .

Make sure all important documents are located in Alfresco .

If you accidentally opened a suspicious file, disconnect your computer from the corporate network and inform IT Client Services for further assistance .

1405983 2015-08-05 23:26:00 basically don't be stupid give up on that one :D People still click on things no matter how many or how much you tell them not to .

One of the ladies at my wifes work asked SWMBO about a "document" in an attachment - she was told very clearly, do not open it, delete it, its fake .

When the other half walked away, the other lady decided to open it anyway since it came from a known business they deal with . :groan:
