1405610 2015-07-30 22:39:00 TG haters please look away now, do not read any further

www.bbc.com

Clarkson, May & Hammond have been signed to make a new series of a particular car show, for Amazon Prime.
Cant wait. May possibly be even less politically correct than before.
So where does that leave the 'official' new Top gear ? dead in the water? BBC's TG without Clarkson will have to be damn near perfect in order to survive

Im not sure about Amazon Prime, can we get in in NZ with using a VPN type service?
The website seems(to me) just a mess without easy to find info, ie pricing. I wouldnt even look twice at that website otherwise
Not good when I have to use wiki to find out just what prime is all about .

1405612 2015-07-30 23:13:00 Will be better than the one that the BBC will be making with the Ginger Whinger Chris Evans gary67 (56)
1405613 2015-07-31 01:49:00 I really loved TG and still watch the old episodes. I believe they would be quiet nice on a new platform and a new style. The three idiots are great together.
The original TG from BBC might die but I hope not. There are some really good producers and creative thinkers there as well and as a car show it would be
nice to watch I think.

I guess it may split between those who like to watch the 3 stooges, those who like the cars, and those who like both... both shows will likely succeed with different audiences.
Personally, I'll watch the one with Clarkson and Co. in it any day.

Assuming Amazon Prime isn't geo-locked and infested with DRM...

Looks like VPN would be required. I just had a look and got this:

Sign up problem
You may continue with this billing address, but Prime Instant Video streaming, Prime Music, and the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library will not be available outside of the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Prime shipping benefits will only be available to shipping addresses in the contiguous U.S.

Restricting access to a TV series with that has a World Wide fanbase can only lead to rampant piracy
Rampant piracy will just mean that many who can legally get it, will simply choose a illegal download or dubious stream instead

Why dont they see this ?

1405617 2015-07-31 03:37:00 most people would happily pay for something if it is at the right price rather than pirating it

so people subscribe to services like unotelly for un geo blocking content and can now access BBC, SBS, full US Netflix etc

I do like TG, but I've been thoroughly pi**ed off with Clarkson giving himself an advantage over his 'team mates' in all of their three-way challenges in recent programmes. In my opinion the older series were somewhat more realistic and balanced, and I'd much prefer to see at least some semblance of a level playing field.

If you saw the recent "cross country race, loser makes the speech" episode you would know what I mean. May and Hammond at least paid lip-service to the 'rules', but Clarkson apparently 'won' with only the front half of his FWD still moving. Everything from the driver's seat rearwards had been amputated, but he dragged his sorry ar*se across the finish line in first place, as usual! Not only was the deck stacked, the outcome was preordained as well.

Funnily enough, his fuel tank would have been left behind by the amputation, as would his hydraulic brake pressure, so some careful and time consuming work would have been needed to supply the juice without Clarkson self-immolating or splattering himself on a convenient immovable object, which he ultimately did anyway when he decided he really was God, and the rock was called The BBC.

Maybe his new "Owners" will be less compliant and/or awestruck, so he might have to do as he's told.

Cheers

Going by the article, it appears the opposite will apply.

If they don't stick to their own rules it does make it more ridiculous, but still good for a laugh though, which is why I watch it.
