1412781 2015-12-14 22:11:00 Having said that, for Mum, my bros all need to have a Hotmail address just to use Office 2013? I think this is stupid!

No login or hotmail is needed for 2013.
perhaps you need to know the difference between Office365 and Office2013 . They are not the same

I dont think you installed Office2013 at all. you have installed Office 365. They are not the same.

Just what are you after anyway, trials will expire in a month or so regardless

1412782 2015-12-14 22:21:00 I'm still unsure why I need a key when office has already been installed successfully! The issue is not about the product key at all or any installation for that matter! The key issue is , why at the top right corner, people have to use an email address to use word, excel and is there a policy where people don't need to do this? Was a bit of a work for me, because Office wouldn't allow my Gmail account I use, so created a random Hotmail address which I dont want in the frst place.

You don't need that account to be signed in at all, that is only needed if you want Office on more than one machine to keep the same settings, backgrounds etc. between the machines in sync.
That's if Office was originally installed using a product key. If it was installed and activated via a Microsoft account (Some stores sell you a key that has to be activated first with a Microsoft Live Account) or via an Office 365 subscription then you will have to be signed into an account.
Microsoft use this to verify your license.

1412783 2015-12-14 23:43:00 Hi,

Anyway, I've decided to go back to using office 2010. Just thought it would be an inconvenience for anyone logging in my laptop and having to sign up for a Hotmail account just to use Office 2013; especially Mum. One thing I didn't like about Office 2013 was that glaring WHITE background in word. Although there were a few options to choose from using the office theme; light grey, dark grey and white, I now remember why I refused to go with the student deal and upgrade in the first place!!!!.

I disagree. I have several options: switch account ( preferably for someone else) or for you to change to use another email account? So how would that work if you have more than one person using your laptop with each user using their own Windows account? Surely, your own email address and settings is NOT going to be there as well for someone to access and use? I still don't get it why everyone is mentioning about the product key? This has nothing to do with it! I'm not installing it in any other machine. Its just ONE machine.

By the way, it is not Office 365 and I didn't need a subscription, just my hotmail account to download Office Professional Plus 2013 which has a 60 day evaluation period either32bit or 64 bit.

Cheers

1412785 2015-12-15 02:17:00 I disagree.

Cheers

I'll see your disagree and raise you a "you're incorrect". :p :D

I have office 2013 on a couple of computers. The only difference between the trial and the full license is with the trial you are limited to 60 days ( you should be able to make it longer but wont go there) ;).

NONE of the office 2013 are signed in with a email account (never have been), just a Product key when installing, and there's no prompts.

I still don't get it why everyone is mentioning about the product key? Simple, when you install it for the first time you have Three options
1. Use a email address (online)
2. Enter a Product Key
3. skip both. If you skip both as its been mentioned you can install it, but you will be prompted each and every time you start a program to activate/ enter details.

Okay, had a few minutes so tried to simulate whats happening - Think I'm not too far off. As well as what should be done.

When installing the Trail, it installs, takes a few minutes, then you are presented with this window:
6868

I'm not surprised if you clicked on "Continue Online" IF you did then yes you'll be prompted for a Email address all the time as its what it was told to do, Online = Email Address Required.

If you clicked Close. It would have shut.

On opening any office program you would then be prompted with this:
6869
Note red line under email Address option.

click that and lookie:
6870

Enter in the product key you will have been given when downloading from Microsoft, and it asks to activate - activate: Not signed in, 60 day trial and NO more prompts:
