| 1412596 | 2015-12-10 22:42:00 | Hi guys. On my HP lappy I have noticed under, Computer Management, disk management it shows my hard drive is split up into 5 different drives. the first 3 have no name, but 4 says G-parted live D: and number 5 says Hammonds C: I've tried to install G Parted onto a DVD drive, but when I restart computer always boots to hard drive. I've also installed, on hard drive Ease US which I've used before on XP & Vista. This computer is a virgin Windows 10, nothing before it and I can't do a think with this program. Anyone able to offer me some constructive advice, please:nerd: Ian |

You have to either press the correct key ( may flash on screen) to select the boot Menu, or disable the UEFI settings in the BIOS and use Legacy. BUT be careful, using legacy will more often than not make the Laptop not boot normally. So it needs to be reset later. Wouldn't go removing those partitions either - as it will cause all sorts of problems, they are there for a reason. UNLESS you are wiping the Drive completely clean and reinstalling W10 from fresh. |

You mean, UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface)? Never heared that term before? I was a DOS man, brought up on Windows 3, 3.1 and 95. Those was the days........ |

Those was the days........ yep, the UEFI will stop a computer booting from CD/DVD or USB. Some have a menu that will allow you to boot from CD, but you have to press the correct key as its starting to bring it up. When going into the BIOS you can disable it and turn it back to Legacy, you will get warnings that by changing your computer may not boot etc, and from memory HP's ( I think) even go as far as prompting you to enter a security code it displays. Removing any of their partitions usually causes all sorts of problems, unless as I mentioned you are wiping eh drive and installing W10 fresh. Thats how I clone Laptops with UEFI, turn it off, boot from a CD, clone, then go back and reset everything back to Defaults. OR remove the HDD and clone it via a older workshop PC. |

Best way around it is to wipe the drive completely(deleting all partitions) & start again, or leave it as is. OEM non standard partitioning & non standard bootloaders can be a nightmare when trying to fix boot errors . so if it works I wouldnt touch it. Or wipe & start again. |

Saw a beaut a few weeks back, the person Had just purchased a New HP All in one. Runs very nice once all the HP crap was disabled. On doing a bit of inspection ( read having a play) :D All these references to Lenovo, including in the System properties appeared -- WTF ?? I asked had someone been fiddling with this - NO! its only been unpacked and put on the desk -- Okkkaayyyyy ??? |
