1412358 2015-12-04 22:35:00 Being old and stupid I forgot my windows 7 password and not smart enough to write it down but I do have the OS DVD. Is there anyway to get back into my PC without re-loading the OS? lostsoul62 (16011)
1412359 2015-12-05 00:35:00 There is, and you can do it by booting into recovery console with your OS DVD.

I'm not going to explain how to do it though, there's utilities out there made for recovering passwords as well as the method used above.

Just hunt around for it.

Cheers,

KK

1412360 2015-12-05 04:54:00 Yeah dead simple, This is the long way, by booting from a Windows DVD and changing a few settings. Follow the article. pcsupport.about.com Giving instructions is no big deal, as you have to be in front of the Computer and able to work on it.

There is other software thats available just needs some work with Linux..

Personally I don't do it that way ( have done though) , takes to long, I use a PAID dedicated software -- Doesn't matter what the password is, can bypass/remove it in less than 1 minute -- Would be faster if it wasn't for the fact the CD or USB drive has to read LOL :D

1412362 2015-12-05 06:01:00 Which paid one would you recommend? I either use Offline NT Password & Registry Editor which removes the password or Ophcrack which can take a while or not work at all!
I think a Passcape tool can recover/reveal passwords.

1412363 2015-12-05 06:38:00 Yup, I've used NT before works fine. BUT, if the system uses UEFI, you have to disable it in the BIOS first. Otherwise it wont work Speedy Gonzales (78)

Heres how it goes 90% of the time.

Work needed on Customers computer back at workshop.

Before leaving the owners location:

QUESTION --- "When the computer starts do you get prompted or need to enter a password" ???

ANSWER --- NO it boots directly to the desktop / windows. (General answer)

QUESTION ---- Are you sure ?

ANSWER ----- YES Positive. ( normally comes with a look of Yeah I just told you so)

Do some repairs on the system files Via a CD -- On start up ( normall boot or safe Mode ) whats showing ? The User Name and a blank password box - password IS REQUIRED, which of course is not blank -- so password required even though the owner says it doesn't have one... **** me :mad::mad:

Boot from www.password-changer.com select the account, delete / remove password, ( original not required) reboot, computer boots directly into windows.

When returning the PC -- Get asked-- OH what happened to the password ??

Answer --- You mean the one you said that's not there or required--- I removed it ------- Normally blank look in response.

I'd just change it.
Then, of course, they'd ring after collecting it and say my password doesn't work anymore.

1412366 2015-12-05 19:02:00 Then you could charge them $50 for the new password!! linw (53)

To change it you first need to know the original. Theres no way I'm spending hours trying to recover a password ( esp when you cant get hold of the person who said it didn't have one), eaiser to simply remove it in less than 1 minute.

Had one the other day, the daughter had changed the password on a W10 and then forgot what it was, had a email address instead of the user name. I was given a list of a possible 9 ones she may have used, combinations of Letters, numbers, Could also have had upper and lower case, she couldn't remember. Thankfully only took around a dozen ties to hit the right combo.

Couldn't log into email on line as she had tried to many times incorrectly and was locked out, and the recovery details were also forgotten, or no longer available ( cell number) .:annoyed:
