1406417 2015-08-12 07:42:00 Hey i don't know know if this is the correct way to ask , sorry if i make a mistake . As i know the internet come comes through the phone line connection but looking at the wires does the connection have a separate wire for the internet and separate for phone or they basically as one .

Also i want to know when the telephone companies do troubleshooting for say looking at if the line is healthy , how does it actually tell them for how the line is doing ?

Thanks

As for the phone test, when they test the line they are looking for foreign power, foreign earths and either capacitance (each phone has a capacitor and so the test shows you that) or a short. If your phone has become disconnected the test will not show any capacitance. Simple enough.

When you call fault service the person who answers, in most cases, is not a technician but just a receptionist who passes the fault report onto a technician. The fault centre is in the Telecom building in Takapuna and is the fault centre for all the country.

Just saying in case you have a wiring problem in the bit that goes to your modem while your phone may be working fine

1406420 2015-08-13 09:49:00 If the phone line tests alright but the broadband is not working, the first thing to check is the exchange equipment. If that tests okay then a phone call will establish that everything is plugged in. If that checks out then it will be necessary to send out a faultman to check the line at home. It's just a matter of elimination. Quite simple really.

How do I know all that? I worked in Telecom's fault service for 21 years.

.

But that doesn't happen.
You ring ISP and they get you to check it all at your end first, then exchange ends up being last....
