1406045 2015-08-07 03:52:00 Can my car run on 95 Octane? It's a 2006 Nissan Wingroad Jap import and I have been using 91 Octance petrol since I got the car.

I was talking to a guy this morning who drives a Nisan Maxima and he claims that when he switched to 95 Octane, performance has increased noticeably, and suggested that I should do the same.

Any experts in this forum who can enlighten me on this?

Cheers

1406048 2015-08-07 05:01:00 Using higher octane should never be an issue (within the realms of generally available fuels, that is). Using lower octane can be. inphinity (7274)
1406049 2015-08-07 05:11:00 Isn't higher octane fuel runs hotter? Remember vaguely someone (one of my friend) said that long long time ago! bk T (215)
1406050 2015-08-07 05:17:00 No, the RON measures the amount of compression the fuel can withstand before it ignites. Higher compression engines will generally require a higher octane, to avoid the fuel detonating prematurely (causing knock, timing issues, and all sorts of problems potentially). Running a higher-than-required octane may, in some cases, improve performance or efficiency, but in many cases may provide no benefit and thus is just an unnecessary cost. inphinity (7274)
