| 536251 | 2007-03-27 10:57:00 | Hi everyone. I have just today sold my X850XT PE. Buyer wants me to install it for her, but she has the devil's (Dell) 4700 series computer. Looking around on the internet, it seems that 4700 series uses a range of PSUs - from a 470W with 26A on the +12V rail and a 305W; with, believe it or not, double +12V rails both with 18A each. There was also another PSU 4700s use, a 350W, which only has 14A on the 12V rail. What do I do? All these PSUs are OEM, and I won't be able to tell the difference. I don't want to install the card and fry her PSU if it's the cheapo 14A on 12V rail one. |

| 536252 | 2007-03-27 21:18:00 | It won't fry it, it will just complain it isn't getting enough power. Take the lid off, look at whats written on the existing PSU, it will say how many amps on the +12V. I'd tell her to chnage the PSU anyway. To something decent and of quality. |

| 536253 | 2007-03-28 06:45:00 | Apparently these PSUs that are used on 4700s are OEMs, so chances are the stickers isn't on the PSU. I think the 305W is enough if it truly does have double 18A +12V rails. What do you think? |

No, I'd still change it. I like to do these things properly, and just because it might have just enough amps doesn't make it a quality, reliable PSU. |
