535785 2007-03-25 11:49:00 Thanks a lot everyone, especially Sherman for the screenshot of the file structure. And a interesting discussion to boot as well. Yay!!!:D

Thats ok.
If you look at any movie DVD you will find that that is what the file structure is.
I guess you weren't sure if there was some special file in the root directory of a DVD to make it playable on a DVD player.
You do realise that you wont be able to fit most movies on a standard single layer DVD without compression or cutting out special features don't you? As Most movies are on dual layer discs and are usually 6-7GB in size.
(hypothetically speaking of course - you wouldn't actually USE this information now would you?:D )

535786 2007-03-25 12:23:00 I guess I'm lucky that my stand alone player can play mini-dvds then
especially when the player is kinda old

I've read somewhere that some players determine what a disc is by reading what kind of data is stored on the disc and some simply uses the actual media type to determine what kind of content it's trying to play

so i guess my player looks at the data on the media and since on a mini-dvd the structure is the same as dvd so it gets treated as a dvd .. just a small small capacity one
and so...if all this is true..then a player that looks for the actual media type won't play mini-dvd too well since it's not a dvd disc and the data on it is not vcd or svcd

yea..sorry can't find where i read this before
so correct me if i'm wrong

but.. having a player that plays mini dvd is handy because i can try out just a little clip i've encoded or the menu's i'm authoring and not have to burn a dvd-rw and simply burn a cd-rw instead..don't have to wear out my dvd-rws~

535787 2007-03-25 13:25:00 I think what is needed here is one of those machines that wind the DVD back to the start for other people to view. Then they can't tell if you've even watched it
Huh?
Surely, you're pulling our legs?

535788 2007-03-25 14:02:00 Yeah, I basically wasnt sure how I could ensure playback on my DVD player if I say I copied a DVD. I did remember that most DVD's were 6-7 GB's but since I am not going to copy them, it doesnt matter:D beeswax34 (63)
