536457 2007-03-28 07:00:00 ever since i put together my home network to connect with my laptop, the desktop computer slightly freezes every 5 sec when connect to the network only. it gets really annoying when trying to type something in as it randomly misses out letters an takes about 5 press of the button to type that single letter. its not the keyboard as cursor does the same thing (jumps around). Is there any way to stop this from happening apart from unpluging the power to the wireless router? (desktop connected through cable, laptop wireless)

Desktop:
MS XP home edition (SP2)
2.8GHz 1GB RAM

Laptop:
MS Vista home premium
2GHz AMD Turion 64
1GB RAM

536458 2007-03-29 00:40:00 I dont think missing letters have anything to do with the network.

What kind of keyboard is it?

USB/PS2? or is it a wireless keyboard and mouse?

It sounds like the mouse I just replaced, it kept going off, when it felt like it.

If its a USB keyboard try another USB port. If that doesnt work, try another keyboard.

There may be a network problem. Look for missing packets. ;) ipconfig might tell you.

536460 2007-03-29 04:05:00 The mouse and keyboard are wireless but the freezing stops when i up plug the power on the wireless router, maybe the wireless router is interfering with the wirleess activity of the mouse and keyboard (Packard bell wireless keyboard and mouse . the receiver is one unit for the both) .

I have just tested my theory and it seems that i was right, as i mo move the router closer to the keyboard/mouse receiver the computer typing becomes slower and slower, then i moved it a far distance away and the keyboard/mouse work perfectly fine, i repeated this and got the same results .

536461 2007-03-29 04:54:00 Well there ya go, either move the router away from the keyboard/mouse .

Or dont use a wireless kb/mouse .

536462 2007-03-29 09:06:00 Depends what the router and peripherals are. I have a Microsoft Wireless Receiver right next to a Linksys router and have no problems whatsoever. Try changing the channel on the wireless mouse/keyboard or on the router itself. beeswax34 (63)
