536394 2007-03-28 00:30:00 Hi:

I have just Recieved Vista for my laptop through the Asus Vista upgrade program. I am currently running Xp.

Of course to my curiosity i want to see how vista goes on my laptop, but i have few questions before i go ahead:

1. The windows XP setup files are on my Hard Drive, in a Hidden Recover Partition (i have the xp recovery disc too, but to know knolodge the setup files are not on the disc), will i be able to "roll back" to xp if i find vista is not for me?

2. I have heard that XP CD KEY becomes invalid after vista is installed, is this true?

Any Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

536395 2007-03-28 01:20:00 What is the size of the HDD?

Do you want to dual boot with XP and Vista?

If you were to upgrade Vista over XP then I believe you will not be able to roll back unless you setup a restore point in XP.

There has been recent discussions on this site since the release of Vista in
February and you should also check Google.

It is possible to install Vista without compromising the XP key and there is documentation also on this site about that. Some of us who dual boot still prefer XP as Vista does have problems with no drivers for older hardware.

I would suggesat that you check the variuos postings before you start to install Vista.

Make sure you backup all your data you have on your laptop before you do install Vista, just in case anything goes wrong.
