536171 2007-03-27 05:13:00 any free defragmenter(not a trialware) better than windows built in defragmenter? thanks.. jonkimnicko (10061)
536172 2007-03-27 06:57:00 What’s wrong with the one built in to Windows? (its better that anything that out there) stu161204 (123)
536173 2007-03-27 07:06:00 Is your drive NTFS?
If so it's debatable that regular defragmentation is needed.

I use Diskeeper which is good but it's not free. (it's better than Windows built in defrag)

As for a free defragmenter Windows built in defrag is pretty good.

If your still keen you could could try Auslogics Disk Defrag (www.freedownloadscenter.com)

However I have not tried this program myself so I don't know how good it is.

536174 2007-03-27 14:23:00 Read somewhere that the 'Windows' defragger
is an earlier version of 'Diskeeper'. which is up to up to version 10 now (Maybe 11)
There is a free version called 'Diskeeper Lite' ...Works on 98SE. The full version doesn't !
Regards. :)

I use Auslogics Disk Defragmenter on 4 PCs and it is excellent. Much faster than Windows defragger. Use the above link or go straight to their web site: www.auslogics.com

536176 2007-03-27 21:39:00 I have just purchased Diskkeeper 11, which is made for Windows Vista. I would reccommend it.

There is no lengthy overnight defrags, it simply works quietly in the background, with no noticeable side effects.

Trying to get the product licenced was a bit farce. You have to go through their website, and the "automatic" process doesn't seem to work. Go through the "use another computer" route to copy and paste the licence numbers between the numbers the program gives you, and the numbers the site gives you back...if you choose to buy of course :)

PS this link www.auslogics.com shows a message saying "the account has been suspended"

536178 2007-03-27 22:14:00 This one claims to do a better job than others. Dirms (www.dirms.com)

I use it & it's never caused any problems, but I have no idea if it's doing much different or better to anything else. Read to docs on the site & see if you're convinced..
