536122 2007-03-27 01:23:00 Hi guys,

Ill have to try your suggestions after 4 when I get home.

My pc wont update MS updates. Im running Explorer XP.

Never had anything like it before. Even the auto update sits on 0% update.

I even went and tried the help and support and guided help.

I fear my neice may deleted something....but cant be sure.

Sorry if it is a tedious thing but help always appreciated.

Rob

536123 2007-03-27 02:19:00 Look in event viewer. See if its got anything about windowsupdate in it.

Some of the windowsupdate files may need re-registering.

And look in C: \ windows \ windowsupdate, its a text file. Go through it and see if it brings up any error codes.

If there are any error codes, post them here. Or do a google/yahoo search. See what it means.

536126 2007-03-27 11:19:00 If u have Outlook Express, I would log into a newsgroup (if ur ISP supports them) . .

You go to tools/accounts/news tab and add/news, then go from there .

Who's your ISP??

If its Ihug, and you're in Auckland, u type in news . akl . ihug . co . nz, after u do the above .

And type in microsoft . public . windows . server . update_services

Or microsoft . public . windowsupdate

Or part of this .

And paste the exact error you're getting in one of the above .

You have to wait a few secs, for the server to download the newsgroups, you can log into .

536128 2007-03-27 22:04:00 If all else fails, get a copy of Firefox, or any browser except IE and go to this site:

http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/

Its all perfectly legal and safe, I was using it for years when my last laptop failed to update.

You have to install a small plugin, and have javascript turned on.

It goes to great lengths to explain any privacy issues involved. I had no problems with it at all.

536129 2007-03-28 08:18:00 Sorry guys, no luck.
Is there a way to see what has been deleted after it has been deleted?

I think I may have to not let people use my pc as the net speed and performance seems to have dropped!

I checked virus/spyware etc none of those, I have a hunch something that shouldnt have been deleted has been.

536130 2007-03-28 08:45:00 You may very well need to load XP again in the repair mode so that it can fix any damaged files etc. Bryan (147)
536131 2007-03-28 21:46:00 (Probably get shot down for this one but anyway . . . ) Is it simply possible there are no more updates to get for your computer? Have you tried the manual check for updates Start > Help and Support > Check for updates .

I know my two machines have not needed any updates for 2 weeks now . Yellow shield says "Downloading updates" then stops, a manual check show there are no critical updates to download .

Check your update history, Start > Help and Support > Check for updates > Review update history .

The last one I have is 15th March 2007 .
