536053 2007-03-26 09:19:00 I'm having a problem deleting a duplicate folder from my list of folders in Windows Explorer . I have Windows XP Home edition on my Acer Aspire 3002WLMi laptop .

I have transferred a folder of photos called "ULeadPhotos" from my PC via a thumbdrive to my laptop, but managed to transfer it twice, once into the "My Pictures" folder, and once into a "Pictures" sub-folder of the My Pictures folder . I don't want this duplication, so I right-clicked on one of the two folders and then on "Delete" . After starting putting the folder into the Recycle Bin a window came up entitled "Error deleting file or folder" with the message "Cannot delete ULeadPhotos: it is being used by another person or program . "

I had clicked on only Windows Explorer so it certainly wasn't being used by any other person or program . So I tried deleting the other one - with the same result . So I then tried changing the name of one of the two folders, but got the Error message: "Error renaming file or folder" with the message "Cannot rename ULeadPhotos: it is being used . . . etc" as in the previous error message .

I have also tried emptying out one of the two folders - no joy! And then emptying both of them, but again, no success .

What can I do to get rid of the surplus folder?

536054 2007-03-26 09:22:00 Boot into safe mode and remove it there. radium (8645)
536055 2007-03-26 09:28:00 Failing that Try Killbox (http://killbox.net/) tick to remove on next button boot.
or try Unlocker (www.topdrawerdownloads.com)

536056 2007-03-26 10:03:00 Thank you, Radium. I duly booted into safe mode (had a "learning experience" finding out how to do that, but I was eventually successful, thank goodness!) and was able to delete the surplus folder. jno (12040)
