536675 2007-03-29 03:31:00 I’ve got a computer here that locks up at POST periodically .

It stops on the search for IDE Drives and the mouse and keyboard are locked up .

The reset or power buttons are then the only thing that works .

Anyway, I thought I’d run Seatools for Windows to see if it could find anything . So, I downloaded and saved Seatools to another computer and copied and pasted it to a flash drive so as to transfer it to the faulty computer .

All was well but the faulty computer wouldn’t recognise the flash drive, so I tried another flash drive which also has diagnostic programmes on it and it wouldn’t recognise that either .

However, now I can’t get any computer to recognise either flash drive . It’s almost like the faulty computer has destroyed both my flash drives . :badpc:

Anyone ever heard of this happening, or any suggestions how to recover my programmes from the flash drives?

I’m also wondering if the faulty computer has got a crook capacitor on the motherboard and it’s blown my flash drives .

Any ideas anyone? :D

536676 2007-03-29 03:51:00 Yes, USB ports dribble 5v which is why you need to 'safely remove hardware' 1st before removing the devices, I imagine both flash drives have now been spiked.....bad luck!

It does sound like a faulty motherboard, searching for known devices before POST....

Yes the drives were removed from the good computer in the approved manner but were not recognised at all by the faulty computer. Hence the difficulty closing them down in the approved manner when removing them from the faulty computer.

I don't fancy my chances on either front here. :D
