| 536832 | 2007-03-30 21:12:00 | Hell, Even tho I'm not in Wanganui, why get ADSL with all the posts in here saying it's crap / it sux. And can be as slow as dialup. You might as well stay on dialup. Only reason I'm not on ADSL is that I'm not working. And I dont plan on paying whatever it is ($99 or whatever), for an early d/c fee. If I cant afford to stay on ADSL for whatever the period is now. And why should I pay extra for Home phone, whatever it is, if I havent got a phone on my line. And I cant do much about that, since WINZ in Auckland arent that helpful either. And since most jobs now up here anyway require some kind of transport, or car or licence to get around (which I dont have, and dont plan on getting now or in the future), I'm pretty much stuffed  Unless my old job decides to ring me up again, (which hasnt happened yet), then I'll go back there instead. |

I believe you live pretty central, so the public transport options are also there ... Can't believe you think you are totally unemployable because you can't drive. |

| 536835 | 2007-03-30 22:24:00 | Thanks, and when was the last time you used dial up in Wanganui? Legend. The stats for NZ and I don't believe Wanganui would be any different are about 612,000 on broadband and 770,000 on dialup. That means of all the people in Wanganui with internet access about 45% are using broadband and 55% are using dialup. So it is not really correct to say the internet has moved away from dialup, dialup suits many people so why would they pay extra extra to do the things that they can do just as well with dialup. This will change in time as broadband prices get closer to dialup but they will change because of the price not because they have a need for the faster connection. It may surprise some people here but not everyone wants to play online games or watch video. |

| 536836 | 2007-03-30 22:36:00 | Stupid forum killed my post! Anyhow, what I said was I have a medical condition which prevented me from getting a licence or a car, I had to wait for 5-10 yrs to apply for one. But, now why bother with getting a car, when I'm not working. Getting a car / a licence / registration isnt free. And youre right Jen, there is public transport. Bus stop outside the door and across the road. BUT, it depends on whether the job I want is in town or not, It maybe out of town, in which case, I'd need something other than catching a bus. If the job involved using a car to get around. Which if it was years ago, (if I didnt have to wait, to be cleared), I may have done, but now, I just cant be bothered getting one now, or in the future. Its just too expensive. |

Rubbish, Websites look nothing like they did five years ago, They are saturated in content, media and advetising, The Internet in general doesn't give a rats arse what people in NZ are still using, Nor does it wait for them to catch up. The amount of data being retrieved and the fact that the content is stored on multiple servers all cause series lag when viewed on a poor connection. End of freakin story. As for Wanganui, As I have already said, there is a fixed amount of lines out of Wanganui, When its busy Telecom give themselves preferance and leave whats left over for the use of customers using other ISP's, Hence nearly every night at certain times the Internet dies for many many dial up users. You can challenge that all you want, You just dont know your arse from your tounge, Though if you still insist then get on a bus and I'll show your ignorant arse what the reality is. All in regards to normal surfing and simple tasks like emailing photos, So idea why you chose to spring a reference to gaming or videos out of your backside. |
