537294 2007-03-31 12:14:00 Friends, Since tonight after I started my comp I have a problem. I can use my browser and many other problem, but whenever I fire up Outlook it displays the nasty box: Outlook encountered a problem and needs to close. In the right lower hand corner I see that there are 50 mails and that it intends to download the first of these mails, so the connection with the mailserver is already setup.
strangely when I tried to browse my disk what the problem is, explorer shuts down too. Spacemonger on the other hand works fine and tells me that there is 200 MB free space left on that C:drive. can Outlook be forced to start in safe mode or what can I do?
Cheers and thanks for help

Johan

537295 2007-03-31 12:23:00 200MB! Not a lot.
Maybe delete some temp files, empty recycle bin.
Can you log into your webmail and check what the first email is?
It may be what is causing Outlook to crash.

537296 2007-03-31 12:27:00 Did that, cleaned out the temp files but the funny part is that also disk explorer is not working...... funny, I had times with even less free space on my windows drive but outlook worked well. Now this. Firefox runs well........... hotkiwi (6379)
537297 2007-03-31 12:49:00 I deleted the first couple of mails that stand waiting for download and I started Outlook in safe mode with outlook.exe /safe on the run command. Also in safe mode it comes with the same message that it needs to close.
Can my Outlook have grown too big ?

So how big is your outlook.pst file?
Also archive.pst?

537299 2007-03-31 13:03:00 Outlook.pst is 5.8 GB, archive file insignificantly small, can't even find it in spacemonger.
can i reinstall Outlook or is there a repair function if I insert the original Office disk ?

537300 2007-03-31 22:29:00 5.8GB!!
I'd say that is your problem.
What I would do is find the pst file and move it to another folder.
Then open outlook and see if it works. It may say it can't find the pst file but you should be able to tell it to make a new one.
If that works then try importing you email and contacts from the old pst file BUT only import the email folders you need and not the whole 5.8GB!

537301 2007-03-31 22:59:00 Yep but now fear something fundamental is wrong with windows, see my mailing: recycle bin ..........
I think that Windows is broken, will attempt a windows repair.
Will a Vista upgrade keep all my stuff for outlook etc intact ?

Cheers

Johan
