537095 2007-03-30 17:21:00 I was looking around for anything that might help clean up my PC (it's only a few months off being a year old, I thought it was about due)

There are 2 products here that I was wondering, are they any good, and worth trying?

First is Registry Booster (www.liutilities.com)

Second is Speed up my PC 3 (www.liutilities.com)

What do you think?

537096 2007-03-30 19:29:00 I would recommend CCleaner www.ccleaner.com ooh yeh (2935)
537097 2007-03-30 20:05:00 I wouldnt bother with programs like that. Most of them dont work, and theyre most probably like rogue programs anyway.

They lure people into buying them, when in fact they dont actually do anything useful.

There's most probably registry hacks around, that'll do the same thing.

Only way to speed up a PC is to either get more ram, defrag it, get a faster CPU, or dont install memory hogging programs on it.

Ccleaner would most probably do a better job than Registry booster. It gets rid of invalid links etc, and its free.

537100 2007-03-31 08:49:00 Thanks for the help guys, I'll try the suggestions in Steve's links and then if I'm still not satisfied I'll try Ccleaner.

Speedy thanks for the advice, I can't upgrade my CPU with out upgrading the Motherboard (s754) my CPU is only 10% slower than the fastest one I can find for that socket (Athlon 64 3200+). In the furture I'm going to be looking to overclock this, but it's still fast enough for now.

I have 1gb of ram, however this isn't the thing in most need of an upgrade, I will go to 2gb within the next year though.

My graphics card is the slowest thing (for gaming anyway) It's a nVidia 6200TC 256mb. I've overclocked it though, and hold the record for the fastest 6200TC on overclockers.net, although I've seen faster ones in online overclocking tests.

I'm a student so I'm trying to do as much as I can with out paying.

[EDIT]
Just looked at the first link, I already do steps 1, 3 and 5. But I'm going to do the others from now. I do have 1 question about step 6, what does the time out setting in BOOT.INI actually do?

537101 2007-03-31 09:10:00 Just tried ccleaner, and there is a noticable difference is how snappy it is when doing things like browsing 'my computer' etc. Faded_Mantis (79)

Nothing if you only have one copy of windows. This option only shows up if you have more than one OS installed. It provides the option of which one to run. However, there could be more options for one OS installed - I.E. the switches at the end of the line.

537103 2007-03-31 09:40:00 Registry Booster works quite well but costs. You can just find other programs that do the same for free :) trinsic (6945)

Have you defragged yet? Best to do this in Safe Mode. Should make a big difference if you have not defragged in a long time.

BTW, before you splash out on a new cpu and mb, reformat and reinstall Windows - this is a last resort but will produce a clean and fast pc.
