537112 2007-03-30 14:34:00 As a newbie, I would appreciate your help.

If I put the PC World DVD into my computer, all it does is to have the DVD/CD icon flicker and flutter about 20 times and then there is nothing.
If I Rclick, there is nothing showing in the boxes for "Play" or "DVD" or in "Eject".
The WMP works for CDs but not DVDs it seems.
I tried updating to WMP 11 from the net twice but after about 45 mins, the download was disconnected as it said it was taking too long to do so.

Any ideas on what is wrong and how it may be rectified? I would like to use the PC World DVD.
BTW, I have played DVDs OK before - I think this has arisen only recently after there was a Major but automatic upgrade from MS.

537113 2007-03-30 14:49:00 Is it just that DVD?

Try another, If it reads it fine then throw away the one that came with the Mag.

Besides that, It will have nothing to do with media player, It is most likely a data disc with some fantastical html front end, and maybe a flash intro, or maybe that was phased out.

537114 2007-03-30 23:11:00 I always thought that the DVD should auto-run or open up in IE like with the CD's. Just go to My Computer and right click on the DVD and then click either Auto-Run or Explore. beeswax34 (63)

Welcome to PressF1.

The DVD contains content that Windows Media Player will not open.

Use your Internet browser to open index.htm or index.html on the DVD.

Comments from Metla are sarcastic and unhelpful but true.

Autorun is not always on either.

537116 2007-04-04 08:48:00 Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I tried My Computer RClick on the D Drive (and the E Drive) and go to Explore.

There is then nothing recognised as a Disc (ie DVD) but it does "see" CDs!!

Is there something to be ticked or checked that may have been turned off? - this would have been unwitting/inadvertent.:groan:
