538341 2007-04-05 03:50:00 If you haven't got your Windows Animated Curser patch yet, get now form here, MS07-017 (www.microsoft.com) and a bit more info in this KB article (support.microsoft.com).

MS rates this one critical, but most would call it highly critical it's that nasty and is being exploited by scumbags right now, so patch away.

Oh, and this affects all MS OSs since 2000, including Vista and probably more and is not dependent on you running IE alone, Firefox (and presumably other browsers, though there are only exploits in the wild for the IE users at the mo) can see you in the mire, which ain't really surprising as it's an OS thang rather the the app's.

One wonders why they took their time over this one. Then again, we are always left wondering, no!

Edit: Here's Fairfax's spin on the vulnerability - Computer World "Microsoft issues emergency Windows patch" (computerworld.co.nz)....
With attackers finding more ways to exploit a critical flaw in its Windows operating system, Microsoft has published an emergency software patch

538342 2007-04-05 03:59:00 And one wonders why after 14 years of patch free Windows I have never had any malware. pctek (84)
538343 2007-04-05 04:12:00 You could share that tidbit.

Can your customers say the same?

Of course, how else would I be typing away here...........What I have onserved over the years of Windows versions is you're mad if you rely on MS to protect you.

My customers ususally have fully patched PCs stuffed full of malware.

3rd party is so much more effective. MS patches etc are like sticking bits of sellotape over a sieves holes one at a time, expecting a usable bucket at the end of it.

538347 2007-04-05 10:35:00 I use both microsoft's and 3rd party patches/programs. works for me. Agent_24 (57)

Curses, I didn't expect anything more than a cursory inspection of my excursive cogitations. I guess it takes a censorious, au courant, curmudgeonly old cu.... oops, getting carried away with the c words

I'll give you that one, I actually changed it from or to er for some reason, but yours is is good enough.

538349 2007-04-05 10:52:00 A guy thats giving you these links is now in trouble with microsoft and was told by MS to remove his links go to pc world home page and have a read. Hitech (9024)
538350 2007-04-05 11:04:00 Oh, and this affects all MS OSs since 2000, including Vista and probably moreCorrection... the site doesn't list XP SP1, nor does it have a SP1 specific download. So some don't need to bother. Greg (193)
