538310 2007-04-04 20:59:00 I bought a new HP Pavillion A1520A computer on February 22, running Windows XP Media Centre. It was the shop model (it was purchased around the time Vista was coming out and no one locally had any of the new models and as I needed a computer immediately, I didn't have much choice) and I have had a few problems with it from the start. The most annoying problem is the screen blanks out for a second or two - usually within a few minutes of start up but occasionally at other times too - and for a while it was shutting down without warning. I updated the drivers and that stopped the shutting down problem, but last night I got a new error message for the first time and it appears every time I turn on my computer.

“The system DLL user 32.DLL was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.”

I have emailed the guy I bought it from as he said they would swap the computer over for a new one if it continued giving me trouble, but I just wondered what has caused this error message? I asked elsewhere and was told it was a hardware problem, but I'd like to know for sure before I go in guns blazing and demand a replacement!

538311 2007-04-04 21:05:00 Its because of yesterdays update (www.microsoft.com)

KB925902

It affects Realtek HD audio soundcards.

Get the file above, it'll fix it.

538312 2007-04-04 21:17:00 Cripes, that was incredibly fast service (what can you expect from someone called Speedy Gonzales!) and it seems to have got rid of that error message so thank you very much.

Now, if you can point me in the right direction regarding why my monitor blanks out for a few seconds every time I start the computer, I'd be in your debt forever!

No worries :) I saw the info bout it yesterday, when I got the 925902 update myself.

Might be a BIOS setting under power management that needs changing.

When u say it was shutting down, the monitor just turned off and stayed off?

Or the whole system shut down (turned itself off)?

Or go to control panel / power in Windows. Whats here? hibernation? power scheme ? what else is here, and what are they on?

What about the videocard? I take it its onboard, or is it AGP or other?

Why? What was wrong with a real shop built PC?

Right, computer monitor still doing it - here's what happens. I start the computer as per normal and usually within five or ten minutes of starting, the whole screen goes completely black for one or two seconds then returns to normal. No quivering or shaking when it does it (as you would get if the power supply had been interrupted). The power settings are "always on" and "turn off screen after 20 minutes". That's all I could find. I don't know where to find the info about the video card but I was told it was onboard. I am not that technologically literate so don't know what AGP is, sorry!

I have been speaking with the guy I bought it from and he said he has had a couple of this model with this same problem. Together with a few other niggles and the fact it was a shop display model, it sounds like they are going to replace it.
