| 538049 | 2007-04-03 09:57:00 | Just going to do a differential backup and am getting the message that Acronis cannot see any hard drives. Explorer can see the C, D, E, F and G drives fine. Have had a look at the Acronis program, site and forum but nothing so far seems to address this issue. What can I do please ? Misty :horrified :illogical |

| 538052 | 2007-04-04 06:14:00 | I have written as follows to Acronis Support - Hi I have version 9 of Acronis and it was happily working for quite a few months but on the latest occasion when I ran the program, I got the message that Acronis could not see the hard drives (ie C, D, F and G). Error number is E000101F4. I have restarted and rebooted the PC a number of times but the same thing happens. I have Windows XP as an operating system and it is fully up-to-date. C & D drives are partitions of C. F & G are partitions of an external hard drive. It seems that one prime thing I could try is to uninstall Acronis and then re-instal. However that presumably means that I will lose images already created with no guarantee that this will work. Or is it a pretty sure bet please ? Then left with no comprehensive backup on my external hard drive (drives F and G). I do not know whether it is relevant to mention, but just about the same time as this error occured it came to my attention that in Drive D (ie partition) there is a file of some sort called \c_winxp.GHO which takes up 10.90GB of space. Now I do not know what this is. I came across it when I was going to defrag the drive. As it occupies a large amount of space this means that I have only 7% of the drive free. Not enough to defrag. Could it be that this also causes a problem with Acronis ? Is it perhaps a secure zone that I have inadvertently created as I have not thought through or read much about taking any such action. If it is a secure zone, then can I just delete it using Explorer please ? Looking forward to hearing from you. Please advise. Kind regards On doing a search of the error E00101F4, I was pointed to the Acronis forum and it appears that doing a re-instal may work. When I did a search on the file \c_winxp.GHO, the only two search results were in Chinese (Mandarin). I translated both of these into English using Google (a first- quite exciting !! :) ). The results seem to indicate an image but the word "Ghost" is used. I do not think that Acronis use the term Ghost as that would cause confusion with the Symantec product of the same name - their main rival ! However I have never had Ghost on my machine. In case Acronis say the latter is nothing to do with their product then I will still be left with a space problem and inability to defrag unless I do some serious deleting. Also I do not want to keep a file of 10.90GB on the hard drive when I do not know what it is. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. :help: :help: Misty |

| 538053 | 2007-04-04 07:40:00 | error E00101F4, However I have never had Ghost on my machine. Neither have I, only its images. I boot Ghost off a floppy, you can't run Ghost from within the O/S you want to image anyway. \ www.wilderssecurity.com |

| 538054 | 2007-04-12 18:32:00 | Being able to see the hard drives now as I downloaded an update to Acronis. Also managed to delete enough files that I was able to do a defrag. Still very much want to identify what the mystery file of 10.90 GB is though. Any suggestions ?? Wish I could see it in Explorer ! Misty  |

Misty  Maybe it is System Volume Information. Do you have the option ticked to "reveal hidden files" (in Explorer, Folder Options)? I had a huuuge System Volume folder - cannot recall what I did to downsize or eliminate it - someone or Google will tell you if you can simply delete it. |

| 538057 | 2007-04-14 21:26:00 | The system volume information folder is a system folder, (its for system restore, if u use it). So you'll have to untick hide protected operating system files as well. To see it. And to get into this you'll have to turn system restore off, and boot into safe mode and add yourself to the folder as Admin to see whats in it, if u want to delete whats in the folder. And if u do use system restore, say byebye to the restore points, if u delete whats in this folder. |

I then logged on to safe mode and used the role of Admin . However I still could not see this folder or file . This is even after unticking hide protected operating system files . The system volume information folder is a system folder, (its for system restore, if u use it) . Do you think that this "\c_winxp . GHO" folder or file is definitely a system volume information folder ? (ie a system folder) . Or was it just a possibility ? It is still there . :dogeye: Misty  |
