538867 2007-04-08 00:02:00 I’ve got a computer here that simply won’t start. Screen Blank but some odd POST Codes.

It looks like an Imperial Bios on a Imperial_GL_VE Motherboard in a HP Pavilion Computer.

Anyway, the code is: 1 Beep - 3 Beeps – 3 Beeps – 1 Beep – Silence.

The length of Beeps would be equivalent to “Dit” in Morse Code

Any takers as to what it’s trying to tell me? :D

538868 2007-04-08 00:29:00 How long ago was it last running?

What OS is on it (that's if you know)?

Do you have a bootable disk that you can use to see if it will reserect anything with the computer?

538869 2007-04-08 00:34:00 Also you will need to establish what version the BIOS is.

See here kb.iu.edu

Also check Google, I used "Computer beeps" as the search criteria.

538870 2007-04-08 01:05:00 We’re quite a long way from worrying about Operating Systems and Boot Disks Bryan. ;)

We have no Video and the only Chip on the Motherboard that looks like it may be a BIOS Chip has a green sticker with Imperia on it. A high powered magnifying glass reveals what looks like V.3.21 underneath.

Hmmm, I’ll try Google again. :D

538871 2007-04-08 01:42:00 From what I read it would seem that the beeps might point to viedo problems so is the plug into the computer from the screen secure?

Check all the connections. Can you plug the screen into another PC to see if it works?

One Long and Three Short Beeps . Video (EGA) Display Circuitry .

You do have video, its probably just an integrated chip as opposed to a separate video card . Its still video, what do you think you are plugging your monitor into?

And all motherboards have a BIOS .

538874 2007-04-08 06:15:00 That’s a good site for Beep Codes Decibel but I can’t see any mention of an Imperia or Imperial BIOS Chip.

A major problem is that I can’t get an electronic verification of BIOS type because we have no Video.

Looking at the Motherboard there is no chip with Award - Phoenix or AMI on it so I just assume the Bios is an Imperial if there is such a thing. My assumption is purely based on the fact that the only chip that looks a bit like a Bios chip has Imperia written on it.

I guess the first question is: Is there such a thing as a Imperia or Imperial Bios Chip?

And if so, where do I get the Beep Codes? :badpc:

538875 2007-04-08 09:07:00 Is this it ? (h10025.www1.hp.com)

And does this (h10025.www1.hp.com) look like the mobo?

it's totally irrelevant what you have or dont have the monitor plugged into......your pc will NOT give beep codes just cause the monitor is'nt' plugged in..........best bet is to perhaps get a spare vid card from somewhare and try to start up with that......
