538931 2007-04-09 01:51:00 The reason I recommend zipping the files is that each attached file has an overhead increasing the size of the email. I think you would be quite surprised if you used the two methods emailing yourself and comparing the size of each method. mikebartnz (21)

What a load of bollocks. Zipping an e-mail attachment is one of the most annoying things you can do to someone.

Any of my staff caught doing it to a client would be shot on the spot... and the same would happen if they sent a zipped file in an e-mail :annoyed:

better put on your flame suit !

by god do i hate people who do not compress their files. what really gets up my nose is those buisnesses who cannot open compressed files that stock windows can't handle ***! tech support is to stingy to install winzip?

i compress most files as it drops the file size in half (unless its a compressed file to start with) and makes it so much quicker to send.

gee all these people complaining about slow internet and you recommend clogging it all up sending overly large attactments which could be sent in half the time. :annoyed:

one firm use to annoy the hell out of me by sending their price list uncommpressed, a whole 2.8meg of it, it was only 600k compressed ! ! a whopping huge difference in time taken on a 28k dailup.
not to mention that the difference in cost of sending it when your paying per megabyte is huge. also when you have a capped adsl do you really want to waste your useage on huge uncompressed files? i don't think so.

:badpc: :annoyed: :badpc:

Still should get smacked... where's that petition?

See if anyone else can think of a really good reason not to do it. First one gets star :)

538936 2007-04-09 09:27:00 Thanks, Foxymx, for the prompt to respond to the thread I initiated. In the 38 hours since I started this I have slept a little, worked a little, but had little computer time.
Yes, I use up to four signatures for my correspondence and will look at Thunderbird again. Eudora (and I think some others) have a simple drop-down list which makes a different signature two mouse clicks away. I will have to look more at the different accounts system of Thunderbird.
Yes, zipping files has been considered. In theory it is many more mouse clicks when saving file size is not needed.
I had not previously tried dropping files from Explorer to Eudora and it works a treat - my choice for now.
But I obviously need to keep looking, unless some new active group takes up support for Eudora - which I have liked from the outset.

You might find it annoying but I find it equally annoying when some stupid sod emails me (I'm on dialup) with files that takes five times as long to download in their uncompressed format.
Where do you work because I never want to make the mistake of working there.
