538581 2007-04-07 01:06:00 BTAW, what is with those old NVIDIA cards anyway?
I had a riva TNT2 m64 that went bad a couple of months ago also.

Yet I've also got an old ATI Mach 64 PCI card that still works fine (that's what I used to test actually)

538582 2007-04-07 23:35:00 yep my trio 2d/3d 64 pci has outlasted many modern cards I suppose its like a model "T" beama (111)
538583 2007-04-07 23:39:00 I've seen several boards that don't work when there is a flat battery, or even no battery.... but then some do and just say "CMOS Battery Failed" Agent_24 (57)
538584 2007-04-07 23:48:00 Well Well Well...
I changed the vid card out, and put in a known working old pci card, and the comp booted witout any problems whatsoever - it didn't LOOK very pretty, but it did boot.
So it would seem that the vid card has given up the ghost...
Either that or the AGP slot has.

Hmm, a quite different result than from a dead CMOS battery. it shows that one should never assume things or jump to certain conclusions.

If you've still got the case open you could try sticking the old card back in and taking it out a few times then firing the comp up. I had a box about that age (with an athlon 1600+ cpu) that went awol... seems the video card connectors had 'oxidised' and weren't connecting. It might work for a while, or it might not.

Strangely I also had the same problem with a stick of ram on the same box, so you never can tell.

BTW- if the problem persists it's more likely to be the card gone bung than the slot.

Now where's Metla?... he'll give a definitive answer as he is a god
