539683 2007-04-10 05:32:00 Hi,

I have recently switched my broadband ISP from xtra to slingshot. However I have found that the slingshot broadband connection isn't stable. I find that I keep getting disconnected from the internet and I have to reconnect to the internet again. The time between the disconnections happens from as little as half a minute to half an hour.

I have tried contacting the slingshot customer service but they don't seem to know what the problem is.

Is there anyone who could provide a solution to my problem.

Thankyou,

Michael

Hi Michael,
Change ISPs, LOL (sorry).

But seriously,
What type of modem are you using?

Can you list the settings?

539685 2007-04-10 06:25:00 My modem is D-link DSL-502T (the one that xtra gave for free) .

The settings are mostly the manufactured ones as I pressed the reset button on the modem and I didn't change anything apart from what slingshot instructed me to do on their website . These are stated below:

Primary DNS should be 202 . 180 . 64 . 9
Secondary DNS should be 202 . 180 . 64 . 2

The generic ADSL settings for New Zealand are as follows:

VPI should be 0
VCI should be 100
The Protocol needs to be PPPoA (PPP over ATM, RFC 2364) with VC multiplexed encapsulation (VCMUX)

Operating mode can be: G . 992 . 1, G . DMT or ANSI T1 . 413 iss 2 - but not G . Lite or G . 992 . 2

Your IP address should be dynamically determined .

539687 2007-04-10 09:07:00 Isn't that the modem for which Xtra urged their customers to download and install a software upgrade? The problem apparently was frequent disconnection. I think a link (and fairly full instructions) were given in the "support" area of the Xtra homepage, but a look on the Dlink site might find it. Graham L (2)
539688 2007-04-10 09:16:00 My modem is D-link DSL-502T

I am with Slingshot and connect via the same modem ... no issues evident to me and certainly am not experiencing disconnects.

I presume you have run the Setup Wizard correctly?

539689 2007-04-10 11:23:00 I never received the setup cd . Can the setup wizard be downloaded off the slingshot website?

I can't really find the upgrade for frequent disconnection on Xtra's help page . I typed 502T into the search box but the only results I got were for a security upgrade .

I've also visited the d-link website but can't really find it either . I found how to upgrade the firmware but I don't think that is what you're talking about, is it?

The modem is kinda strange, right now I haven't experienced any disconnections .

539691 2007-04-10 23:59:00 Problem solved. I phoned slingshot again. They said they'll ring back later after checking the connection. They rang back later and told us that xtra/telecom did not setup my connection with slingshot properly(after ringing telecom).

Thanks again for all your help.
