Also, is AVG Free good enough to keep viruses out?
Cheers.

539382 2007-04-09 10:57:00 Unzip hijackthis first Spring, put it in its own folder. Then run it again, then click on scan and save a log, then tick these entries and tick fix checked.

Close browser/s.

I would also get Ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com)

And clean the temp files etc off your hard drive.

AVG should be good enough.

Unless you want to pay for an AV program.

I would also install a firewall.

539383 2007-04-09 11:00:00 ummm, im pretty sure it is unzipped aye, ill put it in its own folder and give what u said a go. Can you reccomend any good free firewalls? I'm just using the windows one!!

P.S. Should i put the "Backups" folder in the new Hijack This folder too?

539384 2007-04-09 11:06:00 ummm, im pretty sure it is unzipped aye, ill put it in its own folder and give what u said a go. Can you recommend any good free firewalls? I'm just using the windows one!!

Nope, if it shows this in the log, u posted.

C:\Documents and Settings\Springa\My Documents\Hijackthis\HijackThis.exe

It isnt unzipped.

Try Comodo (http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/)

Its free. And a pretty good firewall. Turn XP's firewall off first before u install this.

Are you on a network, or a LAN where you are??

If you are, once u install Comodo, after u reboot, click on summary, click on Application Monitor, then Tasks, then define a new trusted network.

Then next, then the name of the network card will appear, press next again. Then finish.

539385 2007-04-09 11:09:00 Im on Xtra Jetstream, is that a network? and its not in a .zip file, ill just cut n paste it into a new folder in my Program Files Folder. Will that do the trick?
LOL Sorry, im dumb :)
springa886 (10558)
539386 2007-04-09 11:14:00 Jetstream is on a network well not a home network.

Umm double click on that hijackthis file until u see the main file then cut and paste it and put it in a folder called HJT.

Put it on C.

It doesnt have to be in program files. Just as long as u unzip it before u run it.
Speedy Gonzales (78)
539387 2007-04-09 11:17:00 lol, if i double click it, it runs. But yeah thats done anyway. Ill do what you said to do earlier and post the new log. springa886 (10558)
539388 2007-04-09 11:29:00 Okay, I did everything you said, except i'm getting rid of the sun java stuff now but im not sure what to download from the site your sig takes me to. Theres heaps of stuff to download and i dont know which one i want!! And also, i didn't go into safemode or anything, cos im dumb and read that part after I ticked that box and fixed it!!! Anyway, heres the new Log:

539389 2007-04-09 20:53:00 That log looks better.

The update you want, is the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1 one.
