539032 2007-04-08 13:44:00 I have now Vista Ultimate once again. When I had XP, my microphone was able to record sound, etc and even inaccurately translated words using XP's speech recognition technology.

But in Vista, I can't even get it to work properly. Device Manager says it is working, but it certainly can't pick up any sounds, not even my voice. Speech Recognition in Vista can't hear a thing. Sound recording can't hear a thing.

Like, when you record your voice using sounds recorder, there would be that gauge that is filled in green as you record, right? Well, when I tried recording my sound, there are no green bars at all, the gauge is empty.

What can I do to make my mic work with Vista?

My motherboard is the MSI 945P Neo-F, and it says:

Audio

• High Definition link controller integrated in Intel ICH7 chip
• 7.1 + 2 channels audio codec Realtek ALC882.
- Compliant with Azalia 1.0 Spec.

Can anyone please help me get Speech Recognition in Vista to work? It would be much appreciated.

539033 2007-04-08 14:12:00 Sorry this is way beyond my knowledge of soundstuff, but one thing which might help the experts when they get here..?

From your description of what will/won't/used to work, the conflict seems to be between Vista & your microphone.
Yet although you've given heaps of specs, the mike itself is missing.

If I were an expert, I'd want to know its details - even if only to check that your model is actually Vista-ready..?

539034 2007-04-08 17:56:00 Make sure you have the right input device selected for the microphone.
I have a high definition and Vista also said it was working but nothing came out. When I took a deeper look I found two inputs for microphone and selecting the other one made it fire up and have not looked back since.

539035 2007-04-08 22:01:00 yeah I reckon you have the wrong Mic input selected. I know my nforce sound has Mic1 and Mic2, only the Mic1 input actually does anything!!! Agent_24 (57)
539036 2007-04-08 23:17:00 Can you hear any sounds?

To me It sounds like your sound card/ drives are not Vista compatible.

Yeah, that may be the problem. But I'll try moving the input into every holes that I could find.

EDIT: is it just me, but does "moving the input into every holes that I could find" just sounds a bit.....dodgy? :p

539038 2007-04-08 23:44:00 Yeah, I'd say your drivers aren't really working. It was the same for me, Vista said the device was working (sound) when it actually wasn't. I grabbed the sound drivers and that fixed it. This might help you (www.free-codecs.com) but I'm not 100% sure so you might want to check this is right for your hardware. sal (67)

539041 2007-04-09 04:18:00 Oh, thanks guys - but that's what I already have. Vista Realtek 1.64 drivers/codec. I just hope Realtek will soon make a proper driver, because if my mic works fine in XP and not in Vista, then it has to be the Realtek drivers right? qazwsxokmijn (102)
