Or I installed too many programs that were incompatible with it, which is probably much more likely. or maybe it's the Apple laptop. I mean, Vista stole enough ideas from Mac OS I'm sure that makes them more compatible :D |

2007-04-11 07:39:00 | Thanks Godfather, I was hoping you would reply. Unfortunately you haven't said why you like Vista better than Win XP though. Perhaps because it's new and different or maybe "just because"? Perhaps it's because the new hardware is almost totally silent and nothing to do with Vista at all? But it works, all seems logical when I need it. And I like new toys. But in reality I spend about 2% of my time "using" the OS, 98% running programs "on" it. So for most things it's invisible to me. The boot-up is faster than the old PC, probably due to the CPU and the SATA primary drive. The true sadness is the loss of Eudora. Vista does not support my phone, so I cannot use the Palm desktop as my daily diary for chargeout. It synchs fine with Outlook 2007 though, so sadly we changed. Of anything I miss Eudora the most. Outlook will never come near it for email simplicity.

2007-04-11 11:49:00 | Just did some reading on Wikipedia: . wikipedia . org/wiki/Crysis" target="_blank">en . wikipedia . org Looks like you're right, it'll support both DX9 & DX10! Hooray for me, might be worth the upgrade to a 6600GT AGP card sometime then . Cant afford a whole system upgrade to PCI-e just at the moment :( firstly, a single 6600gt will not handle crysis at anything higher than minimum thus eliminating the wow factor which the game's marketing is banking on . secondly agp cards cost ALOT more than pci-e versions, so buying a pci-e card and cheap pci-e motherboard for around $100 will be only slightly more than buying the agp card . then i guess you'll need a new cpu, but again the physics in crysis aren't too forgiving either . Well it scored 7641 . Not bad with 1Gb and a AMD X2 4600+ . And the flying boat demo looked utterly gorgeous, better than on mine . i've got 2gb of ram and the same cpu, but two 6600GTs in sli . i scored just above a mere 2400 . . . i guess those cards really are good . and yeah, that boat demo was awesome, i can't wait till games look like that (and i can run them) or maybe it's the Apple laptop . I mean, Vista stole enough ideas from Mac OS I'm sure that makes them more compatible :D LOL

2007-04-11 11:51:00 | Conversely, for those who installed Vista and went back to Windows XP for reasons other than hardware or software incompatibility, what were your reasons for doing so? if you use the upgrade version you cannot legally reinstall (or reactivate) your old version of xp, which makes reverting backwards pretty hard for most users

2007-04-11 12:10:00 | Another reason is that Vista would be the next primary OS the world would use in 2 or 3 years time. Why not give yourself a headstart and familiarise yourself with Vista now? Because you could do the hard yards now and let the late-comers frustrate themselves with their new Vista OS while you sit back and watch them frustrate over their new Vista OS. :p Or help them, of course - if you're that way inclined. ;)
