| 539478 | 2007-04-10 20:41:00 | the one and only reason I could come up with to want Vista is to familiarise myself with itDitto Maybe I ought to get Jen to delete this thread, it was a bad idea. :(No. Look at Chill's and Sal's responses for example. They give a pretty decent opinion which is always a good thing. |

| 539479 | 2007-04-10 23:06:00 | I'm not getting Vista until I have a Geforce 8, and therefore actually have a need for an OS that supports DX 10, and even then I will only use it for said DX10 gaming, so I won't have to look at the piece of junk that is Vista. For everything else I'll use XP... |

| 539480 | 2007-04-10 23:27:00 | TAI: If it looks nice, a home user is going to go for it . If it LOOKS easy then a home user is going to go for it . If more and more home users go for it, then more pros will end up moving as well . Vista isn't just a new look . The base system is far more orgainsed . I've been running RTM Ultimate on my macbook (with no audio . . . sigh for drivers) since Janurary and it hasn't crashed or blue screened me once . Of course there are going to be woes about 64bit drivers, but we cant blame vista or microsoft for this . Microsoft told Manufacturers that they were releasing 64bit vista as well, so as far as im concerened its their fault if there are no drivers avliable . UAC was always going to be a flop . It was better in Vista Beta 1, and ive still got beta one running on an old box . It actually thinks not to ask if you are admin unless it is system-risky However, whilst we find UAC annoying, home users will probarbly like it, as it makes them feel that they have SOME degree of control over their computer . Microsoft are right to say that Vista is the most secure operating system they have released yet . It is . A locked down Kernel helps, and the new Windows Update is far more user friendly than the old one . My only gripe with Vista is compatibility with XP programs . But i like it Of course, it's nowhere near on par with Mac Os X tiger :-) |

| 539482 | 2007-04-11 00:08:00 | Just wondering ... What makes Vista a piece of junk and that XP is not? Yeah, I also want to know. But then again, I probably don't know because I haven't read much about the flaws of Vista threads, but I still need to know. So I'm sticking with my opinion of Vista is a good thing - that is, until someone proves to me otherwise with a VERY powerful argument. ;) |

| 539483 | 2007-04-11 02:29:00 | Just wondering . . . What makes Vista a piece of junk and that XP is not? Because it's a miserable attempt at making something that has the features, usability, user-friendliness and pretty much everything else that another product has, which of course microsoft can't do and the result is a horrible imitation . That and I just don't like it . As for UAC making people feel they have control??? ***??? more like it makes you feel like it has control over you because it won't let you do anything!!! (on a side note, isn't it interesting that UAC is the same as Union Aerospace Corporation from DOOM?? - oh yeah, and Vista has the Aero theme . . IT'S A CONSPIRACY!!! ) If Vista still looked like XP (It could have Aero, just not the different layout) then I wouldn't have a problem . I'm sure it's not a case of "It's different and I can't handle, so it's bad" but I can successfully use Win3 . 11, Mac OS, and various forms of Linux, which have variously variated GUIs, all without coming to the conclusion that the layout of everything SUCKS . Somehow all those other OSs are usable because the layout actually makes sense . They are different, but they make sense . Not to mention all the security issues and other problems in it due to it being made by Microsoft . . . |

Are you saying that your machine has been up since January, if so, I'm impressed and I'll need to check Vista out . If you just mean that you've had it installed since January, then well, that's not very impressive :dogeye: |

Straight Bang . I know that I did that and i click allow step out of your own shoes and try in someone elses Are you saying that your machine has been up since January, if so, I'm impressed and I'll need to check Vista out . If you just mean that you've had it installed since January, then well, that's not very impressive :dogeye: Well, my macbook is used for at least 5hrs a day, then i close the lid and it goes into standby, only restarting it when i need to . Vista is as stable as a horse . and according to most farmers, thats pretty stable . |

| 539486 | 2007-04-11 04:07:00 | Well the whole UAC/DOOM conspiracy was kinda a joke.... yes it tells me Internet Explorer is trying to launch a program. Straight Bang. I know that I did that Exactly my point. It continuously states the total obvious just in case you had no idea you just tried to run something. and you, for once, were actually being told what was happening? Except when explorer.exe died (which happened a lot for me, I suspect that was my fault but that's not the point), as all I was told: "windows explorer has stopped working. click here to restart the program and check online for a solution" Of course checking online just told me that there was no solution, and it didn't have any extra information (XP sometimes gives you a hint by listing a DLL, which can point you in the right direction) |
