539066 2007-04-09 07:45:00 I'd vote for palit to, not because of any hard evidence, but because I've heard more about them in the past.

Although I'd probably still go with an Asus, Gigabyte, XFX etc. If not for anything other than piece of mind. Also I've noticed they seam to be a bit easier to sell on trademe (get a slightly higher price).

I've already had a Powercolor and a Sparkle die with pink/red lines down the screen, should be fun to see what happens with another card manufactured by someone else I've never heard of before :D

Powercolor and Sparkle are better known brands than any of the ones you mentioned, Sparkle cards were used in some world gaming champs, forgotten which one but it was branded all over a Sparkle card's box I bought a year ago.

As a side note, are you a heavy overclocker?

However the odd on may.

539068 2007-04-10 05:48:00 Is that Eagle Ti4200 still running?

It was still going when I sold it, but I don't know if it still would be now...

Had 2 sparkle cards (6600GT AGP), first one died, 2nd was the replacement from supercheap (oh the fun I had getting that) which I didn't keep very long but was running fine when I sold it before I upgraded to PCI-E

The powercolor was a Geforce 2 MX PCI which ran in my celeron for several years until one morning I turned it on and it was screwed up...

But I never overclocked either of them, I go by the rule "If you can't afford to replace it, Do not overclock it", except for the Celeron itself which I overclocked a few weeks ago, from 900mhz to 1.2ghz but that was a long time after the GF2 died and only for a few minutes anyway - it was more of a joke just to see how high it would go rather than anything else.

539070 2007-04-11 02:55:00 It may have 512MB RAM, but it's a GS.

What games do you run on it, and at what resolution and settings??

539071 2007-04-11 03:38:00 Stay away from the Silent ASUS 7600's i've heard numerous stories of them overheating. The 7600's are really bordering on what can effectively be cooled passively, you really need to have a well ventilated case.

My Palit 7600GS is the Sonic edition which is factory overclocked with DDR3 as opposed to the standard DDR2 on nearly all 7600GS's. The cheapest i've seen it on Pricespy is $170 and at that price it offer solid performance. Its only fractionally slower than a 7600GT and GT speeds can easily be reached through overclocking.

539072 2007-04-11 03:46:00 i can run fear, far cry and cod about medium to above medium @ 40-50fps mabix (10146)
539073 2007-04-11 03:59:00 Yeah I have heard of those GS that are clocked up to near GT spec., but what's the point really when they are practically the same price as the GT, and you wouldn't have to risk overclocking further...

I have a friend who has a 7600GS 512MB and it runs pretty well for him too, but I still like the GT cards :)

Though I thought the 7 series actually ran cooler than the 6 series??

apparently the extra ram makes no difference.....

539075 2007-04-11 09:14:00 apparently the extra ram makes no difference..... Maybe not YET but it WILL.

Look at this (www23.tomshardware.com) it is a comparison between the ATI X1600 Pro AGP RV530, 500MHz clock, 810MHz RAM 256MB and 512MB RAM versions, 3d mark 06 shows a 41.53% increase at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF of the 512MB version, this may seem irrelivant, but games are getting more memory intensive... though given you will probably need a DX10 card to play the latest games at decent settings a while in the future... currently I would probably get the 7600GT and get an affordable DX10 card when they are available...

I have a 7800GTX, OCed to 490MHz clock, 1310MHz RAM and there is a fairly visible difference in FPS from stock spec (430MHz, 1200MHz) :2cents:

And that is starting to get a little sad on ths FPS of some of the new games at settings that I like... (1280x1024 mid-high or higher resolution) and when I brought this card, it was THE top  now it is over a year old and looking sad for its self... :dogeye:
