539289 2007-04-09 05:21:00 hello

I have a new HP media centre desktop computer that has not gone properly since the day I pulled it out of its sealed box . -= would never recommend it to anyone - help/support for it is zero

problems were subtle at first but then a few days past its offical return if faulty date it really started to play up . . . . HP is hopeless, their o800 line takes you to singapore where half the conversation is about trying to understand what they are saying or them trying to understand your english so no help there . . . . after installilng a media centre update, which somehow carshed my tele part of mdiea centre along with WMP i had had enough . pcworld . co . nz/images/smilies/badpc . gif" target="_blank">forums . pcworld . co . nz
:badpc:

I finaly out of desperation pushed f10 and took the entire thing back to its so called orginal factory settings, and it still has problems, my tele tuner is going now though, and I refuse to use WMP and now have Itunes but i am forever having programe freezes where browser just freezes, i want to use netscape because its different, but have been using IE 7 i think it has tabs so it must be 7 - both still freeze up and need task manager to end program

i have 61 processes running and
a lot of startup programes and these are straight out of the box

my question this first time is i spent hours discovering what all the codes meant on the startup menu (msconfig) and carefullly went through and disabled the ones that were not essential only to find that the very next day they were all on there again . . . . what the $%$# !!!!

btw i found a nifty little app that tells you what each are called
startup inspector its great it tells what each is for if it knows, and if it is essential for start up . windowsstartup . com/best" target="_blank">http: part is its FREE

also, now that i have touched the startup menu, evertime I turn on computer it starts with a safe mode screen option before booting into the usual XP boot screen - annoying:help:

can anyone tell me how to disable stuff from start up menu and KEEP IT disabled
many thangs

539290 2007-04-09 05:28:00 Get Hijackthis in my sig below put it in its own folder then run it.

Then click on scan and save a log. Copy and post the log back here

Be careful what u delete from the startup. If something needs it, well whatever it is wont work.

Get ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com)

Its got a startup tab in it too, where u can delete whatever from starting on bootup.

539294 2007-04-11 04:21:00 ok will do that, but why unistall sun java, isn't that needed when viewing some websites?

Yer it is needed but you're uninstalling the one thats installed (and all previous versions, if any are installed), and reinstalling the latest version of it.

Its most probably that Nortons/Symantec program thats freezing things. Its a memory hog. And can use a lot of system resources.
