540369 2007-04-12 06:29:00 You're probably all sick of seeing these, but I'm not sure about reading this. I identified some things that didn't need to be running, like messenger etc but the rest I'm not sure about...

540371 2007-04-13 07:43:00 I don't want to sound ungrateful (I'm very grateful for the help) but I'd like some clarification on a couple of the above processes I don't really understand (I like to know what I'm enabling/disabling on my computer)

on RUNDLL32.exe I got 2 conflicting reports from the same site...

Description:
rundll32.exe is a process which executes DLL's and places their libraries into the memory, so they can be used more efficiently by applications. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Note: rundll32.exe is a process registered as a backdoor vulnerability which may be installed for malicious purposes by an attacker allowing access to your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

That has be really confused.

The 2 nVidia things you have mentioned seam to relate to the nVidia control panel, the first above looks like it activates the nVidia control panel, which I want because it looks after my card while overclocked doesn't it? The 2nd, does that put the link to the nVidia control panel in the task bar?

I did follow your advice and "fix seclected" on SOUNDMAN.exe, pptd40nt.exe, IndexSearch.exe and CTDetect.exe.

540372 2007-04-13 11:01:00 Rundll32 in this log would be OK.

Most files in XP can be trojans or worms etc.

You would have to check what the size is if it was something nasty with whatever Windows files. Some files maybe the same size as legit files or maybe the same size but maybe doing something nasty in the background.
